Most of our cattle calve without assistance. Some years we don't even have to assist any heifers. But every now and again we have to.
Some times a calf is breach and cant move through the canal, those ones are the most challenging, and having small forearms has big advantages.
Weve only had 1 c-section, where the uterus was twisted, that was a very unusual case.
Most assistances are just where the calf is too big. This is the case here.
Each time we assist, the cow is culled to ensure the genetics are not passed on.

We take our animal welfare more seriously than industry standard.
Do you know if your purchases are perpetuating abuse?
Ive seen some pretty fu**ed up large scale starvation cases without repercussions in my time in the industry. I actually believe farmers should have a licence to have the privilege of owning livestock and that there should be mandatory reporters.
But in the meantime Im just here, giving you the option to support ethical meat.
Not just so that they have a good life and one bad day, but that they have a good life and at the end they literally are so chill thinking its just another day in the yards

Anyone else busted out the campoven yet?

Good cuts for slow cooking: osso bucco, short ribs, assado ribs, chuck, gravy beef, Thor's hammer, lamb shanks, lamb neck, lamb shoulder, diced goat, pork shoulder.

I love cooking over coals! It just adds an extra level of flavour!

While we were building cattle yards this week I snuck off to prep this one: home grown beef ribs, boodua hearty beef hot pot, billabong crushed tomatoes, red wine, and some veg. So quick to prepare! Then back to the work site to put over the coals.

A great day out was had by all at the WMLIG Pasture to Plate Event last week.
39 people came along to Burraboi to discuss improving biodiversity on working farms. The Weather Gods smiled on us and the property looked fantastic after recent rains with everyone enjoying a bbq lunch featuring produce from the property next to the campfire.

The chuck that she's working on is the hardest part to get right because of the irregular bones of the spine.
