Things are starting to get busy in the orchard again 🍒🍎
We’re getting the cherries pruned before bud swell, hopefully setting them up to grow into nice strong trees over the next few years. Big thanks to old man Plummer (Ian) for lending a hand 😂
We’ve also been doing a bit of work on the apples. These trees were originally Fuji, but about 8 years ago we grafted them over to another variety. Since starting Pick Your Own, Fuji have become really popular, so we’re trying to turn some of them back into Fuji trees.
We’ve made cuts in the trunks to encourage the original Fuji to shoot again, and the girls had the fun job of following along and painting the cuts… that’s why we have kids, isn’t it? 🤔😂
If all goes to plan, we should be picking Fuji apples from them in 2–3 years, rather than waiting around 4 years for newly planted trees to get going.
