Who joined the fun today?

Today at White’s IGA Baringa, the team got behind MIX FM with our colourful Dress Up Day

The store was full of laughs, bright costumes, and community spirit, all helping raise funds for sick kids and their families across the Sunshine Coast.

Across stores over the last week, we proudly celebrated and some of the incredible local growers, makers and producers who help fill our shelves with the very best Queensland has to offer.

And that's not all..... Buy Local Sunshine Coast is running through to 27th June, so we're staying right in our element with markets popping up across all stores.

So look out for the fresh, local produce, locally made favourites, and a smorgasbord of local businesses in store - because buying local means supporting local families, local jobs and the community we all call home.

Today is , and it feels like the right moment to reshare a story we’re incredibly proud of.

At White’s IGA, we’ve been working with Advanced Refrigeration Technology for many years on something that’s made a real difference behind the scenes- sustainable refrigeration.

In 2013, we rolled out a prototype of their geothermal water cooling, closed-door refrigeration system across the store at a time when open fridges were still the norm. The results were significant, lower energy use, reduced emissions, and better efficiency across the board.

Since then, we’ve continued to invest in and evolve this technology, working with the team on environmentally sustainable water loop systems and custom-built refrigeration units designed specifically for our stores.

Together, we’ve also created some unique one-off designs, including the “Deli Rosa”, first built for our Peregian Beach store in 2016 and named after Roz. It’s since inspired similar designs across the country.

What started as one prototype has helped shift the way supermarkets think about refrigeration.

A farmer, a maker, a family business, an early start, a big idea- That’s why we’re so excited for this year’s Meet the Makers event.

More than a trade event, it’s a celebration of the incredible producers, growers and makers behind the local flavours, products and innovations our region is known for. It’s a chance for industry buyers to connect directly with the passionate people shaping our local food and beverage scene.

As passionate supporters of local producers through our Locavore range, it’s an event that feels like a pretty natural fit.

We can’t wait to be there, meeting the makers, hearing their stories and discovering what’s next for local food on the Sunshine Coast.
