We're flat out picking fruit at the moment. Our lemons and grapefruits are loaded and we are sending roughly 900kg of fruit to market each week.
It's lovely in the orchard early in the mornings.

Whilst out mustering and checking fences, we came across a pine tree in 'flower'. After researching I learnt that these aren't flowers but the males pine cones. The pollen travels on the air to the female pine cones and if pollinated the pine cones will grow pine nuts!

These 'flowers', from our observation, start quite small and purple, as they develop and grow they change colour to yellow/orange and pink. Check out how much pollen comes from one bunch after a little shake of the branch! When I lived in Camberra, everyone who lived near pine forests complained about the pine dust on their cars- now I understand!

Can we normalise buying fruit with blemishes?
Fruit with spots and marks on their skin are still good pieces of fruit. Unfortunately due to societal pressures, growers can only sell blemished fruit as 'seconds', returning a lower price.
This is despite the same costs involved in caring for all trees.

We are 'chemical free' which means we use organic fertilisers, make pesticides and buy beneficial bugs from Bugs for Bugs. However, every grower faces huge costs in producing food for our country. The fact that blemished fruit is frowned upon is ludicrous.

For example- I have a random selection of lemons here. Only one of them would be able to be sold as a class 1 piece of fruit. The rest are '2nds'. Here's the kicker- they're all perfect inside. All. Of. Them!

We have 11 Droughtmaster Cows that are PTIC (preg tested in calf; preg test done by Gympie Vets) from 2-8 months pregnant. They are very quiet and used to bikes and dogs.
All are up to date with vax and parasite control.

We are so happy with our lemons this year!
After battling spined citrus beetles the past couple of years, seeing juicy fruit like this really makes us smile!
