Panciallo baking with the ladies of Inner Wheel Club - Balmain at St Davids Uniting Church Haberfield in the church hall. Thank-you to our volunteers who attended this event to help raise funds for Inner Wheel’s chosen charities: National Project - Cord Blood Research, Concord Hospital Burns Unit, Australian Skin Cancer Foundation, Youth Off the Streets and others.
Pancialli are Italian Christmas fruit and nut logs. These ladies have been coming together and baking them annually for more than 30 years to sell. The recipe was given to Inner Wheel by Ivana, originating from her late husband’s family. John and I are so passionate about ensuring that the knowledge of these slow food cooking traditions is carried forward for future generations. We are so proud to partner with Inner Wheel Balmain to bring you these opportunities to learn and be involved in communal cooking days. In the very fast-paced era that we find ourselves living in, it is so energising to slow down and make food with other people, connecting and sharing conversation about life, as we work together.
On Day 1 of the process, nuts were chopped and hand mixed with dried fruits, chocolate and honey.
Day 2 (yesterday) we had our volunteers working hard to mould the mix into logs, before they were baked in the oven. Once cool, they are packaged individually into beautifully presented boxes. A delicious Christmas gift, they are now available for sale from Inner Wheel - $25 each. Link in Frank’s insta bio.
