60 Years of Ryanโs Quality Meats
Where do we even begin? Sixty years holds a lot of stories.
On 14th February 1966, Denis and Jan Ryan opened the doors of Ryanโs Quality Meats on Stratton Street, Hamilton Hill. What started as a small corner butcher shop would grow into something far greater than they ever imagined.
Over the years, their sons worked in the business, but in 1992 Greg and Kerri proudly purchased RQM from Denis and Jan. It marked the beginning of a new chapter โ and a well-earned retirement for Denis & Jan filled with caravanning around Australia, time with grandchildren, and enjoying life at a slower pace.
Although โretiredโ might not be the right word for Denis. He was known to pop in regularly โ quality-controlling the sausage rolls and making sure no scraps were going to waste (they were going home with him!).
In 2004, Karl joined as a partner, strengthening the leadership and vision for the future.
With Greg, Karl and Kerri at the reins, the hard work continued. In 2007, RQM made a major move from Stratton Street to Biscayne Way, Jandakot โ a bold step forward.
Then in 2013, another milestone: the purchase of 17 Palmer Crescent, Bunbury. This was more than an expansion โ it was the beginning of strong South West relationships with suppliers, customers, and local beef and pork farmers. Bunbury truly elevated RQM to the next level.
Like every long-standing business, the journey hasnโt been without challenges. We felt the ripple effects of COVID, navigating uncertain times in wholesale while experiencing unprecedented demand in retail. Our stores โ and even the streets โ were flooded with customers, and our incredible staff worked tirelessly to keep our community supplied.
We also faced heartbreaking loss, with the sudden passing of our beloved Denis in 2022. His legacy, however, lives on in everything we do.
Later in 2022, Patrick joined the partnership, continuing the strong family leadership that has carried RQM through the decades.
The past 60 years havenโt always been smooth sailing. There have been highs and lows, challenges and triumphs. But through it all, one thing has remained constant โ a commitment to quality, community, and family.
Greg, Karl and Patrick โ Denis would be beaming with pride. His little corner store butcher shop reaching 60 years is nothing short of exceptional.
To our customers and suppliers โ thank you for supporting a local family business. And to our staff, past and present โ we would not be here without you. You are not just employees; you are part of the RQM family.
From little things, big things grow
Hereโs to 60 years. ๐ฅ
