Regenerative farming practices and certification give the consumer, whether in hospitality, retail or purchasing direct more confidence in the food they are consuming and the benefits beyond taste and look.

Kootingal Pecan continues along the path to full certification from Southern Cross certified ( https://www.sxcertified.com.au/ ) of growing pecan nuts and supplying pecan oil that meets the audited requirements to be providing organic pecan from a orchard that is certified as complying with regenerative agriculture practices.

To understand why, take a few minutes to read this article below.

How does the soil we grow our vegetables in, affects the health of our gut? And does a healthy soil gives crops a better quality and taste? These are some of the questions Soil ecologist Emilia Hannula and a big consortium will work on. With an NWO-KIC grant of 1.8 million, CML, IBL, FGGA, the LUMC,...

Cockatoos and Correllas, a sub genus of Cockatoos are a pest for the pecan grower.

At Kootingal pecan we have used drones, gas guns, high speed polaris chases etc to keep the birds of the trees and out of the orchard, all with minimal success in the last 2 seasons.

Now our 3rd harvest, a change in tactics, we fed the birds some 400 metres from the orchard with success. These birds, who can live for up to 60 years, are lazy. We know feed them, twice a day on the ground, all the rejected nuts and those left off from the previous year un-cracked, they are not fussy!

Birds are out of the orchard, a significant saving in lost pecans and we serve them twice a day. Birds are happy, pecan grower is happy, win, win, we think a long term solution. Other growers who have observed this are amazed as to how you can train your Cockatoo.
