We're back on tomorrow from 8.30am-1pm! Apples, bananas, capsicum, mushrooms, potatoes, pumpkin and more are fast becoming in season.

Make sure you beat the rush and head in early in you're after seasonal produce. There's plenty on offer to see and you'll enjoy the chance to chat with farmers and growers about where the food you're after comes from.

Or don't forget to head up to the church to the makers section to see what unique crafted goods are on offer.

We hope to see you and your family there!

Grab your donuts here! 🍩 Regulars at our market, Big Lou's DONUTS are the perfect place to grab a box of delicious treats.

The donuts remain soft and fresh for 1-2 days post-purchase!

There are so many options. From vanilla slice and cream bun to the Berliner (German-inspired with fillings and a powdered sugar top), the Boston Cream (American-styled) and Homer Simpson–inspired Iced Rings!

“Most markets have vendors cooking hot donuts that are best consumed in the first 5 minutes. But our donuts can be taken home, the perfect afternoon tea or dessert for the family,” says owner Peter Dimmy.

“We usually have 12+ varieties. From this, you can choose your very own assorted box.”

See Big Lou’s Donuts at our next market on Saturday 12 April!

MEET YOUR DONUT MAKER

Need more convincing? Peter says that customers will always get to meet the maker on market day.

Allowing you to get answers for any questions you have about ingredients, life-span, storage and handling of the product.

“This direct connection is important to us as it is the very ethos driving our participation in the farmers’ market concept,” says Peter.

Ever had Paneforte before? 🍰 🥜 Baked by Elizabeth from Romagna29, these small, delectable Italian fruitcakes are just begging to be unwrapped at our next market!

With a history dating back to the 1200s, including as a past alternative for Italian families to pay their taxes, Elizabeth is delighted to be bringing her family recipe for this classic treat to the Macedon Ranges region for locals to enjoy.

“This is my family’s recipe from Bologna in the north of Italia. The texture is like a soft nougat. It’s made with fruit, nuts and spices. There’s no egg in it and no dairy in it,” says Elizabeth, making it perfect for people with most dietary requirements.

“But… if you do eat cheese, it is magnificent on a cheese board. It’s beautiful too with a little cognac or liqueur after dinner. And of course, divine by itself with coffee or tea or sitting on top of vanilla ice cream.”

Get your fancy chooks here!!! 🐔 🥚

Right beside the path from our farmers’ stalls to our makers’ stalls, you’ll find a quintessential part of the Kyneton Farmers Market experience: the Fancy Chooks ute with chickens, quails, canaries, eggs and all manner of birds.

If you ever wanted to buy a feathery companion or were after fresh eggs, there’s no better place to go. Caring for their birds in a large shed and chicken runs, the company run by friends Bill and Graeme has been going strong for the last couple of decades.

“It’s a hobby, but it’s a great hobby. The chooks are well-cared for. I’ve been caring for them since I was 9. Fancy Chooks keeps us busy!” says Graeme.

Want to be saved from bad sausages? Every week, the team from La Villa Salumi’s smallgoods stall mixes, blends, cures, salts and smokes meat to share with locals without skimping on quality, flavour or Victorian ingredients.

Anna and her husband Ben are passionate about delivering first-grade ingredients to Victorian farmers’ market customers.

“It’s about being handmade and it’s about being local,” says Anna.

“Not many people know that at your bigger supermarket chains, smallgoods can be labelled as ‘Made in Australia’ from less than 10% Australian ingredients and that 10% is often water. We only use free-range, Victorian Pork.”

“We also dry cure all our bacon, which keeps it crispy when you fry it and stops the water from spilling out from it which you can get if you’re wet-curing it to save time.”

🍝 Craving gnocchi for your evening meals? It doesn’t get much better than Nick's Gnocchi and Pasta – 100% handmade by a small Italian family business.

✏️ Pencil in our next market on Saturday 8 March to get your own Nick’s gnocchi!

“Despite making over 100kg of gnocchi each week, each gnocco is made by hand,” says Nick (pictured).

“We avoid heavy machinery to achieve quality, attention to detail and authenticity.

"Our goal is to make a product that previous generations would be proud to call as their own.”

Nick started the business in 2019, just after graduation to raise money for the Gippsland Bushfire Appeal during the devastating 2019-2020 Australian bushfire season.

Since then, the business has brought in more family and staff, 7 total.

“The gnocchi, as well as our pasta and lasagna, allows me to connect with my Nonna, who passed away when I was a child. It brings me good memories and her influence has helped to serve our slogan of ‘Like Nonna’s. But Nick’s.’

“I love what I do and getting the chance to meet with local customers. They’re the reason why I love what I do and allow for my work to feel like it’s still my hobby.”

Get to know your local potter! For 45 years, Tony Barnes has honed his craft working from his home studio – Moonshine Pottery – in Malmsbury, just up the road from Kyneton.

With an artistic, affordable and functional range of ceramics, we’ve been thrilled to feature Moonshine Pottery as a regular stall at our maker’s market section for several years.

Highly disciplined, Tony shapes the fine stoneware clay on the pottery wheel in two sittings (once to build the structure, then once to refine it when it’s dry), before firing it up in a reduced gas fire kiln in two further sittings (once at 850°C, then a second time with a glaze at 1300°C).

Tony’s hard work has enabled him to achieve the “holy grail” of pottery – a copper red glaze that is notoriously difficult to achieve by requiring the right temperature control and an absence of oxygen in a reduction firing environment.

Bring your fur baby to the market! Kyneton is the market for dog lovers, and well-behaved dogs on leads are always welcome 😊

But don’t just take our word for it! Ask Percy (pictured), who joined his mum last year on a trip to Kyneton to explore our stallholders and meet some new animal friends. Sources say he couldn’t keep quiet about it afterwards!

Your fur baby is in for a treat as well with some special goods on offer thanks to local dog treat manufacturer, Daniel's Doggy Delights.

One of our regular stallholders and the brainchild of 13-year-old Daniel and his mum, Del, Daniel’s Doggy Delights sells biscuit bones and other tasty treats containing free-range, locally sourced, RSPCA-approved, human-grade ingredients.

“The biscuit bones are baked, then hydrated, which makes them super crunchy, great for your pooch’s teeth and gives them a long shelf-life … if they last that long!” Del says.

Bring your pooch along to our next market on Saturday 8 March!

It’s been some time, but after a digital hiatus, we’re excited to share that we’re back on Facebook and will be posting again regularly!

Kyneton Farmers Market is a market for every kind of market lover. Held on the second Saturday of each month (the next one is 8 March), we pride ourselves on backing local farmers, producers and makers, which we’ve now been doing for 20 YEARS from our little corner of the world.

There are 50+ stalls to explore.

Head to us to buy items on your weekly grocery list or if you can’t make it regularly, we promise that even buying fresh produce from us from time to time is healthier than buying from the supermarket and tastes better too.

You can even head to us for special, one-of-a-kind handmade gifts from our maker’s market!

See you for our next market on Saturday 8 March from 8.30am to 1pm at 35 Piper Street, Kyneton, just below St Paul’s Anglican Church.
