🐔 WE’RE HIRING A JUNIOR CHICKEN TRAINER! 🥚

We are looking for a junior helper for a few weeks to assist with an important mission…

🎓 Training our new chickens how to lay their eggs inside the chicken caravan instead of wherever they feel like it!

Hours:
⏰ Approximately 7:00am to 10:00am (sometimes until 11:00am)

Requirements:
✅ Must not be afraid of chickens
✅ Must enjoy working outdoors
✅ Must be reliable and punctual
✅ Previous chicken negotiation experience is not required
✅ Ability to explain caravan etiquette to stubborn hens is highly regarded

Duties may include:
🥚 Collecting eggs
🐔 Encouraging good laying habits
🚜 Assisting around the farm
😂 Trying to convince chickens that the caravan is a better option than the bushes

This is a great opportunity for a young person looking for farm experience, school holiday work, or anyone wanting to spend their mornings with hundreds of feathered supervisors.

This message is for our wonderful Hornsby Market crew 🧡

We love you all… but we also need you to understand something very important.

We are officially allowed into the market from 6:30am ⏰
Not 6:00am. Not “just a quick sneak in.” 6:30am. This is set by market rules and also regulated by Hornsby Council 🏛️ so no, we cannot negotiate it with coffee in hand ☕🙂

🧊 Step 1: Coolroom mission

First mission: coolroom trailer setup
This is not optional. It must be positioned, stabilised, and running properly before anything else happens. If it’s not cold ❄️, it’s basically just an expensive metal box having a bad morning.

⚡ Step 2: Power up

Second mission: generator time
We connect the generator so the whole stall can actually function 🔌
Without it, we’re basically a very organised outdoor picnic 🧺

⛺ Step 3: Gazebo battle

Third mission: gazebo setup (aka adult tent wrestling)
We set up and secure the gazebo so it doesn’t try to fly away with the wind or become a Hornsby kite festival 🎪💨

💳 Step 4: Cash register reality check

Fourth mission: cash register survival test
We connect and test the system so we can actually take payments 💰
Not just smile awkwardly and say “please transfer vibes” 😄

📦 Meanwhile…

We also have a huge amount of pre-orders 🧾 that need to be sorted, checked, packed, and organised so people don’t get chorizo when they ordered cheese 🧀 (that gets emotional very quickly)

Everything we bring is still in boxes 📦
So we unpack, organise, and build a full display of our cheese, salami, chorizo, and all our cool-room goodies 🥓🧀 so it doesn’t look like a mystery warehouse on a table.

Only after ALL of that… are we actually ready to trade.

So if you arrive and we look like we are in the middle of controlled chaos… that’s because we are 😅

We completely understand it can be frustrating arriving early and having to come back later. We really do ❤️

To make things clearer, we will now display a sign that says:
“WE CAN ONLY SERVE AFTER 7:30AM” ⏰

👉 If this sign is up, we are still setting up and cannot serve yet.

👉 If the sign is NOT up, we are open and can start serving earlier if we are fully ready.

This should help avoid confusion, unnecessary waiting, and double trips 😄

We’ve had a few cases where customers had to come back multiple times for cool-room goodies because we simply weren’t fully set up yet 🧀

We are always working on speeding things up so one day we might actually look organised before 7:30am… but no promises 😄

We are officially FINALISTS for the Hornsby Local Business Awards 2026🎉😄

Honestly… what a surprise. We were so busy doing what we normally do (early mornings, markets, chasing chickens, and pretending 3am is a normal time) that we almost forgot the awards were even happening this year.

A huge thank you to our amazing customers for your support, chats at the markets, and constant encouragement. We wouldn’t be here without you and your continued love for what we do at DOS JUANS FINE FOOD 🐔🥚

And of course, a big shoutout to the team… including Rocco, who is currently celebrating by barking at absolutely nothing and taking credit for the nomination.

We’re proud, grateful, and slightly shocked… now back to work before the alarm goes off at 3am again 😅

And just quietly… don’t tell Rocco, but we may or may not have nominated him for the "Young Award of the Year 2026".
He doesn’t know yet, and we’d like to keep it that way until further notice. Knowing him, he’ll try to write his acceptance speech in paw prints and demand treats as a signing bonus 😅

🥚 IMPORTANT EGG NEWS 🥚

To our amazing Hornsby Market customers, thank you so much for all your egg orders and support ❤️

Unfortunately, we’ve had quite a few “ghost chickens” lately… customers ordering eggs and then disappearing without a trace 👻🥚 Not even a little text message to say they can’t make it!

Meanwhile, there are customers at the market staring sadly at sold out signs while reserved eggs sit there wondering where their new family is 😅

So from this week onwards, all egg orders will be held until 1:00 pm only. After 1:00 pm, any uncollected eggs will be released back into the wild and sold to other customers 🐓

Also, when picking up your eggs, please let us know you placed an order, otherwise we stand there playing “guess who ordered the eggs” all morning 😂

😂🥕🚨 WHO STEALS A BAG OF ORGANIC VEGGIES?!? 🚨🥕😂

Today at the The Central Coast Farmers Market one of our lovely regular customers came to us nearly crying because someone apparently “borrowed forever” her bag full of organic fruit and veggies 😭🥬🍎

REALLY people?!?!

Out of ALL the things in the world… someone decided the hottest item today was a bag of kale, carrots and avocados 😂

Now… we are hoping this was simply an honest mistake. Markets get busy, bags look similar, people get distracted by gourmet pasta and beautiful eggs 😅

So if by any chance you accidentally picked up the wrong bag, please contact us or the organisers at The Central Coast Farmers Market so we can reunite this poor customer with her precious organic goodies 🥕❤️

🤣🍝 PASTA PANIC AT THE FARMERS MARKET! SOLD OUT BEFORE 9:00AM! 🍝🤣

We honestly thought taking MORE pasta today would finally slow things down… 😂

NOPE.

By 8:30am most of our gourmet pasta was already GONE! Yes… you heard right. Some customers were still parking the car while others were already walking away with bags full of pasta 😅
