COME ON DOWN: Once again, Australians right around the country are remembering how cold it gets in this country.

And when it happens, there's only one immediately exciting plus side to this frosty weather.

This annual season change always feels like it's the first winter that has ever happened, as the nation always gets complacent over summer and convinces themselves that it'll be warm and sunny forever.

This uncomfortable transition from the warm Australian autumn brings with it many painful lessons about dressing appropriately.

By the first week of June, it should be basically acknowledged that one cannot get caught outside the house with nothing but a T-Shirt anymore.

The winter colds and flus are also back, as is the lack of Vitamin D. This time of the year is marked by what many refer to as seasonal affected depression (SAD), as the body and mind struggles to acclimatise to the winter months.

However, this melancholic phenomena can only last so long. And according to a recent report from the CSIRO - the Winter Blues will end the moment the mandarins arrive.

In Australia, the beloved mandarin season traditionally lasts from April through to October - with the peak availability lining up with the coldest months of the year.

As of this week, the fruit shops and kitchen benches of Australia are awash with the early-season easy-peelers - but the nation will be treated to the more bittersweet harvests as we get closer to Spring.

Other joyful winter-only produce include parnsips, fennell, grapefruit and and kiwifruit - as the Australians enter their exciting soup and citrus era.
