How to shop once and eat well all week (without daily panic buying) đâ
đœïž
You know what quietly destroys budgets and sanity?
That âjust duck in for a few thingsâ shop, every day. đ
Because daily top-ups usually mean:
extra snacks you didnât plan
impulse buys
more takeaway temptation
and the feeling of âweâve got food but nothing to eatâ
So hereâs the system to shop once and eat well all week, in a real household.
Step 1: Start with the weekâs âanchorsâ
Pick 3â4 dinner anchors. Not seven. Youâll repeat and remix.
Choose from:
â
roast tray
â
stir-fry
â
pasta/rice bowls
â
soup/curry
â
eggs night
â
loaded potatoes
Thatâs enough.
Step 2: Buy the âbase produceâ that works across multiple meals
These are your week-makers:
onions
carrots
pumpkin or sweet potato
leafy greens (in season)
zucchini/capsicum/tomatoes/cucumber (when theyâre good)
potatoes (when theyâre in their prime)
lemons/limes for flavour boosts
This produce becomes: roast + stir-fry + salads + lunchboxes + snacks.
Step 3: Choose 2 fruits for bench, 2 for fridge
This stops waste.
Bench fruit: bananas + mandarins/apples (whichever is best right now)
Fridge fruit: grapes/berries/anything softer
Rotate through the week so nothing goes sad.
Step 4: Do ONE âprep winâ on day one (10 minutes)
This is the whole trick:
wash fruit and put it where kids can see it
chop carrot/cucumber sticks into a container
roast a tray of veg OR cook a pot of soup
One small prep = five easier meals.
Step 5: Use the âuse firstâ order
Eat in this order to avoid waste:
greens + herbs
soft fruit / berries
zucchini/capsicum/tomatoes/cucumber
carrots/pumpkin/sweet potato
potatoes/onions/citrus (last longer)
Step 6: Remix meals instead of cooking from scratch
Hereâs how one shop becomes a full week:
Roast tray veg â wraps, bowls, toasties, salads
Stir-fry veg â fried rice, noodles, omelette filling
Soup/curry â dinner + lunches
Fruit â lunchbox + snacks + breakfast
Same ingredients, different meals.
Less brain. Less waste. More value.
Why this matters
Because when families can shop once and eat well:
budgets stop leaking
takeaway drops
snack spending drops
and everyone feels more stable
And when the food youâre buying is local and seasonal? Youâre feeding your household AND keeping our Tablelands growers and local food system strong.
Thatâs the goal. đ
If you want, comment SHOP ONCE and tell me how many people youâre feeding and Iâll write a simple one-shop grocery list + 4 dinner plan using whatâs in season right now.
