MEET MARK & NATALIE
For those who have joined us recently, or for those who have been around for years, we thought it might be time for a reintroduction.

Four years ago, we took over the institution that is Lenny's. At the time, neither of us came from hospitality. Mark's background was in sports broadcasting (and he still dabbles on Friday nights with SEN Radio), while I spent years working in the corporate world.
What we did have was a love of good food, a respect for the community that had supported Lenny's for decades, and a willingness to learn - quickly.

Since then, we've discovered that running a small business means doing a little bit of everything. From early starts and catering deliveries to soup making, customer chats, social media posts, equipment breakdowns and everything in between, no two days are ever the same.

We've worked hard to honour what made Lenny's special while gradually adding our own touch along the way. Some things have changed, many things haven't, but our goal remains the same: great food, generous hospitality, and a place where people feel comfortable walking through the door.

To our loyal customers who welcomed us from day one, thank you. To those who have discovered us more recently, we're glad you're here.

We're Mark & Natalie, and we're proud to be the custodians of Lenny's story for this chapter.

LENNY'S
Do you know why the store was originally painted blue?

When we started planning Lenny's 2.0, we spent a lot of time thinking about the history of this little corner shop and the people who came before us.

Before it was Lenny's, it was Bluszteins. Playing on the family name, the building was painted blue: a colour that became part of the identity of the corner. Through years of sun, rain and fading paint, it remained a landmark at the corner of Inkerman and Orrong Crescent, welcoming people as they turned in from Kooyong Road.

When it came time for us to choose colours, we knew that blue had to stay.

To us, it represents more than the building's past. It represents the people who built it, nurtured it and passed it on.

We are the third custodians of this corner.

First came Gary and Tovia, who established the business and laid its foundations. Then Lenny and Janine, who shaped it into the institution so many locals remember. Today, it's our turn: Mark and Natalie.

Different families.
Different generations.
Different ideas.

But one corner, one community, and one little blue shop that has been bringing people together for decades.

HALVA
If peanut butter, nougat and fairy floss had a baby, it would probably be halva.

For the last four years, this has been my go-to description:

"It fills your mouth like a spoonful of peanut butter, melts away like fairy floss, and has the sweetness of nougat."

Made from sesame seeds and completely dairy free, it's one of those foods that surprises people. Rich, crumbly, sweet and unlike anything you've probably ever eaten before.

It's brilliant as a little snack with a coffee or tea or sprinkled over ice cream.

It also melts really well and makes a great crumble on French toast, or a bread and butter pudding.

We've got two gorgeous new contenders joining the line-up:

If you've never tried halva before, pop in and grab a little taste. It's one of those foods that tends to divide people into two very distinct camps.

You either absolutely love it... or you really don't.

BAGELS - SCHMEAR CAMPAIGN
What makes a bagel a New York style bagel?

It's all about texture. A proper New York bagel is dense, chewy and slightly crisp on the outside. It's made to be bitten into, not squashed flat like a bread roll with a hole in the middle.

At Lenny's, we love the bagels we sell because they deliver exactly that satisfying chew. They're sturdy enough to hold a generous filling and good enough to eat with nothing more than a schmear.

And when it comes to fillings, we're traditionalists.

You won't find avocado, bacon or lettuce here. Instead, we stick to the classics: cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato, red onion, brisket, pastrami, sauerkraut and all the deli favourites that have stood the test of time.

Some things don't need reinventing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the prettiest platters are often the first to disappear.
