🌊🦪 Aptus Seafood: A Legacy of Freshness at South Melbourne Market 🦪🌊
Since 1969, the Zahos family has been a cornerstone of South Melbourne Market, bringing the ocean’s finest to Melbourne’s tables. It all began with Theodore Zahos, who migrated from the island of Evia, Greece, in 1957. After arriving via the USS General W.C. Langfitt, Theodore opened his first Fish’N’Chips shop in 1959 and later took over a stall at the market, naming it Theo’s Fresh Fish. 🐟
At just 12 years old, Theodore’s son Angelo began working alongside his father, learning the art of fishmongering. Joined by his sister and her husband, Petros Petrakos, the family grew the business with a passion for quality and community. In the early ‘90s, they introduced Aptus Seafood Bar and Grill in the market’s food court, officially launching the Aptus name. Since then, Angelo has elevated Aptus to new heights, opening the beloved Oyster Bar and Seafood Grill. 🦞🍤
For over 55 years, Aptus Seafoods has been synonymous with fresh, ethically sourced seafood—think Tasmanian salmon, sashimi-grade tuna, cooked crayfish, and their famous freshly shucked oysters. 🦪 Customers rave about the vibrant range, from St Helens, Sydney rock to Coffin Bay oysters, served with a side of warm service and expert advice. Aptus isn’t just a stall—it’s a family tradition, a Melbourne icon, and a must-visit for seafood lovers. 💙
