🎣 SQUID vs CUTTLEFISH🦑

When it comes to bait, I reckon you should always try to match the predominant food source of the fish you’re targeting.

One of the most common baits is SQUID.

Fresh Aussie squid is bloody hard to beat! If you’re targeting something like Finger Mark and you can catch a squid live and put it straight on the hook, you’re in for a bloody good chance!

But realistically, most of us are buying frozen squid. Unless you’re paying a small fortune for Aussie squid, chances are it’ll be Chinese or Californian.

Personally, if you can choose go the white Cali squid. Throw that on an Elkat striker 7 flasher rig with a #10 ball sinker and HOLD ON! 🎣💥

The downside with squid is that the skin and flesh are pretty soft. Even the smallest pesky fish can shred it, which means more chance of getting baited and more time winding up and down to rebait.

CUTTLEFISH, on the other hand… 👌

It’s bloody tough and stays on the hook a hell of a lot longer. It’s usually messy, leaves a great ink trail through the water and can be a bu**er to clean up in the boat… but I reckon it’s worth it.

I’ve caught some absolute STONKA’S on both, but if I had to choose, I’m going CUTTLE!

Why?

I can run a BIG BAIT, target BIG FISH, and spend less time winding up and down to rebait.

At the end of the day…

Whatever gets ’em in the esky! 🤙🎣
