🫕 Tartiflette — France’s Greatest Gift to Winter 🫕

If there’s one dish that justifies the existence of winter, it’s tartiflette.

Golden potatoes. Smoky lardons. Sweet onions. White wine. And a whole wheel of washed-rind cheese melted gloriously over the top.

French Alpine cooking at its most unapologetically indulgent 🇫🇷❄️

Born in the Savoie region of the French Alps, tartiflette is traditionally made with Reblochon — the legendary raw milk washed rind cheese famous for its creamy, funky depth and unbelievable melting quality.

Simple ingredients. Ridiculously comforting result.

Unfortunately, Australia’s food safety regulations prohibit the importation of soft raw milk cheeses like Reblochon and Mont d'Or… but don’t despair — we have two incredible cheeses that deliver all the rich Alpine comfort you could want 👇

🧀 Delice du Jura
A gloriously creamy French washed rind with savoury, nutty depth and a melt that flows beautifully through potatoes. Decadent. Proper. Exactly what tartiflette demands.

🧀 Mountain Man
Made in Victoria by, this Reblochon-style cheese is rich, creamy, deeply comforting and perfect for a locally made tartiflette.

And don’t forget the guanciale 🥩

Guanciale has become one of the most sought-after things in our fridge lately — and once you add cured pork cheek to tartiflette, there is absolutely no going back.

Deep savoury richness. Crispy edges. Melted cheese. Potatoes soaked in all of it.

Winter food doesn’t get much better.

Everything you need for your next tartiflette is available in store & online

🧀 Long Paddock is BACK 🧀
…and yes, we managed to get our hands on the coveted Ironbark 🙌🇦🇺

There has been much rejoicing in the cheese room this week because it has officially returned to our shelves!

Made in Castlemaine on Dja Dja Wurrung country in regional Victoria, Long Paddock is one of Australia’s most exciting artisan cheesemakers — producing cheeses that feel deeply rooted in both French tradition and Australian landscape.

Every cheese is handcrafted using certified organic cow’s milk sourced from a nearby family farm 🐄

Alive, seasonal, thoughtful, and unmistakably Australian.

✨ Now back in stock: Ironbark ✨

Named after the iconic Australian eucalyptus, Ironbark is a semi-hard washed rind cheese with a beautiful straw-coloured paste, savoury depth, and an earthy richness that makes it impossible to forget.

This is the kind of cheese that:
🍷 loves a glass of Shiraz
🔥 melts beautifully into winter dishes
🧀 anchors a cheeseboard with confidence
👌 and keeps you cutting “just one more slice”

If you’ve been waiting patiently for its return… your moment has arrived. But be quick... this one is moving fast!

Available now in store & online.

🥩 What’s on the Counter · Featured Supplier 🧀

The Art of the Well-Hung Salumi.

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome back one of our most loved suppliers — Saison Small Goods 🙌

Created by Damon and produced locally in Brisbane, Saison was born from a desire to create locally made salumi with old-world soul and the incredible quality of Australian produce.

🔥 Death to the Generic Charcuterie Board 🔥

Saison Small Goods are a group of small-batch cured meat enthusiasts who handcraft high-end smallgoods using traditional, slow-curing techniques that push the boundaries of flavour.

This is salumi with attitude.

🔥 Real ironbark wood smoke
🥩 Whole muscle cuts
🌿 Native botanicals
⏳ Slow curing with no shortcuts

No compromise. No filler. No bland supermarket charcuterie pretending to be exciting.

Just beautifully made salumi with serious depth, personality, and a little rebellious spirit.

And honestly… Saison and Raclette might just be one of life’s great pairings.

The savoury richness of molten cheese alongside the herbaceous, perfumed complexity of handcrafted salumi? That’s the kind of winter eating we can absolutely get behind 🍷🫕

We are proud to stock every piece.

If you’ve never explored Saison before, now is the perfect time!

🧀✦ New Cheese Arrival ✦🧀

Happy Saturday and what better way to start the morning, than with a new cheese, which you can find with Pierre at the Powerhouse Markets or in store!

✨Val de Lou✨
Fromagerie Jean Perrin · Jura, France 🇫🇷

Washed rind lovers… this one is something special.

We’re thrilled to introduce Val de Lou — a beautiful washed rind cheese from the Jura region of eastern France and the newest addition to our cheese room.

Crafted by, a family dairy founded in 1965 in the heartland of Comté country, Val de Lou is made using the milk of Montbéliarde cows and lovingly washed with Jura white wine during maturation 🍷

The result?
A glowing orange rind with savoury depth, wrapped around an unbelievably luscious interior. Smooth, creamy, soft and spoonable — almost triple cream-like in texture — yet still carrying all the character and complexity you want from a washed rind.

Think:
✨ Langres
✨ Soumaintrain
✨ Époisses

…but with a slightly lighter, brighter personality. A gateway wash rind if you will.

On the palate you’ll find buttery richness, gentle savouriness, milky warmth and a beautifully supple finish that lingers just enough to pull you back for another bite.

🧀 At a glance
• Origin: Jura, France
• Milk: Cow (Montbéliarde)
• Style: Washed rind

🍐 Perfect with:

🇪🇸 You already met the maker when we introduced the Cabra Semi Curado earlier this year… now it is time to explore the newest arrival from one of Spain’s most celebrated artisan cheesemakers.

Introducing:
🧀 Los Cameros Mezcla Curado

A remarkable three-milk cheese from Haro, La Rioja — aged for 6 months and naturally matured beneath a living rind of mould, olive oil and time.

Made using a blend of 🐄 cow, 🐑 sheep and 🐐 goat milk, the Mezcla Curado is one of the most decorated cheeses in Spain and a true benchmark of the Rioja region.

The rind alone tells a story. Washed in the producer’s own extra virgin olive oil, it develops naturally into a patchwork of ochres, greens and browns — no waxes, no artificial coatings, just genuine cave-aged character.

On the palate?
✨ Creamy at first
🌿 Earthy and herbal
🫒 Subtle olive oil aromatics
🌶 Building into peppery, savoury depth

Along with a long list of achievements, this producer most recently won:
🏆 Super Gold — World Cheese Awards 2025
Awarded in Bern, Switzerland, and given to fewer than 2% of the 4,000+ cheeses entered from around the world.

Produced by the family-owned Quesos Los Cameros in the heart of La Rioja 🍷, milk is sourced exclusively from farms within a 120km radius — many relationships spanning generations.

This is artisan cheese in its purest form:
Natural rind.
Olive oil.
Patience.
Tradition.

Find this temptation and so much more at our Morningside shop or visit the markets tomorrow at Manly!

✨ There is a certain magic in discovering a cheese you never knew existed.

🏔 A tiny mountain dairy in Switzerland.
🇫🇷 A soft washed rind arriving from France in limited quantities.
🧀 An exceptional Australian maker producing only a handful of wheels each season.

This is the spirit behind the Le Fromage Yard Cheese Club.

Each month, we curate three remarkable cheeses sourced from across Europe and Australia — many imported specifically for our members, often released as first access arrivals or exclusive imports that may never reach the general shop.

Every delivery is accompanied by a beautifully produced booklet exploring the world behind each cheese: the producer, the region, tasting notes, pairing suggestions and the traditions that make each wheel unique.

🌍 Carefully sourced cheeses from Europe & Australia
📖 A curated booklet with every monthly selection
📅 Delivered every second Tuesday of the month
⏸ Flexible subscriptions with the ability to pause anytime

The Cheese Club is designed for those who love discovery — for the curious, the passionate, and anyone wanting to explore the extraordinary world of artisan cheese a little more deeply.

Members often receive access to some of our rarest imports before anyone else.

Today is for the people who nurture, support, guide, and show up with love.

To every mother figure in all its forms — we see you.

It’s probably not said enough, but you are deeply appreciated and truly loved.

We hope today is spent slowly. Around a table, or somewhere that feels like home.

With people who make you feel seen. Valued. Celebrated.

Because you deserve nothing less.

REAL CHEESE IS ALIVE 🧀
And that’s exactly the point.

Not everything in your fridge is meant to look perfect. Cheese isn’t static — it evolves. It breathes. It continues to live and evolve.

Those little spots of mould on a hard cheese? That’s not something to fear.
Trim it.
Rewrap it.
Carry on.

It’s what cheesemakers and cheesemongers do every single day.

🧀 WHAT ABOUT SOFT CHEESE?
Brie, chèvre, washed rinds…
They’re already covered in living cultures.

That bloomy rind? Intentional.
That aroma? Designed.

A little extra surface growth isn’t a failure —
it’s the cheese doing exactly what it was made to do.

🔥 WHEN IN DOUBT — COOK IT
Not sure? Don’t throw it away. Cook it.

A Brie that’s a little further along becomes something incredible baked with honey and walnuts.
A chèvre that’s gained strength? Perfect for a tart or pizza.
A washed rind at peak ripeness melts into something rich, savoury, unforgettable.

Heat softens, balances, transforms.

What felt “too much” on a cheese board suddenly makes perfect sense on a plate.

✨ A REAL EXAMPLE
We found quite a crottin at the back of the fridge — let’s just say… visually, they weren’t winning any awards 😂

So we did what you should always do: We used them.

Caramelised onion + goat’s cheese tart.

Simple dough. Slow-cooked onions. Cheese scattered generously over the top.
Hot oven. Golden edges. Done.
Served with a sharp green salad to cut through the richness — and suddenly, what looked questionable became something completely intentional.

👉 THE TAKEAWAY
The only thing worse than wasted cheese…is unnecessarily wasted cheese.
When something looks unfamiliar, don’t panic —pause, understand it, and use it.
Because real cheese isn’t meant to sit still.

Bon appétit.
