Unspun Honey

Unspun Honey Unspun Honey is a Warré apiary of 100 hives based on the Limestone Coast of South Australia. I occasionally blog about relevant beekeeping science.

My hives are distributed between about a dozen apiaries around the Mt Gambier region. I keep my hives in florally diverse natural environments within 100km of home, to maximize the floral diversity available as forage, and to cut down on transportation costs when I'm doing inspections. Ethical treatment of livestock (and bees could be considered livestock when we keep them in hives) is important t

o me, and helps me sleep better at night. In my case this means I go out of my way to make sure my bees aren't unduly stressed. I am also a scientist, with a Master's degree and a background in pathobiology, and I read a lot of scientific journals.

Our Story

My hives are distributed between about a dozen apiaries around the Mt Gambier region. I keep my hives on florally diverse bush blocks around the South-East, ensuring that they are relatively far from agricultural pesticides while maximizing their nectar and pollen choices. Ethical treatment of livestock (and bees could be considered livestock when we keep them in hives) is important to me, and helps me sleep better at night. In my case this means I go out of my way to make sure my bees aren't unduly stressed. I am also a scientist, with a Master's degree and a background in pathobiology, and I read a lot of scientific journals. I regularly blog about relevant beekeeping science.
