Inside Summit Organics: A Family Farm Adapting to Change
We spoke with Rod Bruin — the strategist behind Summit Organics — about what’s being planted right now and how the farm is adapting to a changing climate.
As the cooler months set in, planting shifts to seasonal staples: silverbeet, spinach, coriander, onions, leeks, and brassicas like broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower. Peas are thriving, while basil and tomatoes continue under protected systems.
It’s a full family operation — Rod strategising behind the scenes, Tania (the pocket rocket) keeping everything moving, their son Ryan is on the frontline at the markets and Owen runs all the machinery and soil prep on the farm
With more extreme weather, they’re leaning into climate resilience with greenhouses, shade systems, and cooling irrigation, while reducing fuel-heavy supply chains through local market distribution.
A grounded, family-run farm growing food for a changing future.
