💔 A Message to Our Mundijong Markets Community 💔

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share some devastating news.

After proudly operating Mundijong Markets since the early 2000's, our Family has been served with a Notice of Termination requiring us to Vacate Mundijong Saleyards by Thursday, 2 July 2026.

Unless something changes, this Sunday's Auction may be the last Mundijong Markets ever held.

This has come as an enormous shock to our family.

For my Dad, Grahame Melling, the Markets have never just been a Business.

This has been his life's work, his livelihood, and a place where our Community has gathered for many years.

Thousands of people have walked through these gates, farmers, families, local Businesses, volunteers and friends. The Markets have always been about bringing people together.

Over the past 18 months, the Shire raised a number of Maintenance Items under the Lease. We acknowledge there were works that remained outstanding. Many of these involved significant costs, contractors and approvals, and we continually explained the practical and financial challenges we faced in completing everything within the requested timeframes. We also completed a number of the requested works and continued communicating about others.

We are deeply disappointed by the outcome and believe there are important issues surrounding the process that led to the Termination. Grahame intends to pursue the legal options available to him so that his case can be properly heard by the Shire's Councillors.

Unfortunately, standing up for your rights comes at a significant financial cost.

Today, we are asking our community for help.

We have created a GoFundMe to assist with the legal expenses involved in challenging this decision and to give Grahame the opportunity to fight for the future of the Mundijong Markets.

👉 GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/13e434cfc

Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards legal costs and keeping this fight alive.

If you're not in a position to donate, you can still make an enormous difference by sharing this post. Your support, your messages and your encouragement mean more to our family than words can express.

If you've ever sold poultry/livestock here, bought poultry/livestock here, volunteered, had a coffee with friends, supported our stallholders, or simply believe in standing behind local families and Community Businesses, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

Please come along this Sunday if you can. Let's celebrate everything the Mundijong Markets have meant to so many people over the years while we continue fighting for their future.

From our family to yours, thank you for standing with Grahame and Mundijong Markets.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Cayley Melling and Family ❤️

We'd love to hear what the Mundijong Markets have meant to you over the years. Please share your memories, photos or stories in the comments. Your messages will not only mean the world to Grahame but may also help demonstrate the importance of the Markets to our Community.

To our valued Mundijong Markets Community,

Since the beginning of this week, there has been a great deal of speculation and commentary regarding the future of Mundijong Markets.

At this time, we wish to clarify that the Lease has not been Terminated. We are currently in communication with our Legal Representatives and the Shire, with a meeting anticipated next week to discuss the matter further.

Importantly, the Sunday Market to be held on 28 June 2026 will proceed as normal, and we look forward to welcoming our Stallholders, lifelong Customers and Community once again.

While we understand that many people have questions, we will not be making any further public comment at this stage while discussions are ongoing.

What we would like to do is sincerely thank the overwhelming majority of our Community for the kindness, encouragement and support that has been shown to us. The messages, phone calls and conversations have meant more than you could possibly know.

Mundijong Markets has been part of this Community for decades. Like many Small Businesses, there have been challenges along the way, and the current situation has certainly not been easy. Nevertheless, we remain committed to the Market, our Stallholders and the Community that has supported us throughout the years.

Whilst we are disappointed by some of the recent commentary and calls for the closure of a long-standing local Business, our focus remains firmly on moving forward in a respectful and constructive manner.

For any enquiries or concerns regarding Mundijong Markets, please contact Cayley directly on 0400 958 081. We kindly ask that Grahame not be contacted directly at this time. As a Family-Run Business, this has been a particularly confronting time, and we would greatly appreciate your understanding and respect while we work through this.

Thank you again for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday, 28 June 2026.
