👋 We're thrilled to embark on this narrative with you! Our venture commences in the picturesque locale of Narooma, where our dedication to exceptional seafood intertwines with the captivating allure of the ocean. 🌊

In 2013, Narooma Seafood Direct was established. Our expedition commenced with a steadfast pledge to deliver the freshest bounty, sourced directly from our vessels to your discerning palates. However, our legacy extends far beyond this juncture. 🛥️

Our narrative traces back to 1949, when Des & Dot Creighton relocated from Sydney to Narooma, securing a commercial fishing license with a modest initial investment. They acquired a boat, and the trajectory of history unfolded. Fish were meticulously preserved with ice and transported overnight for distribution in the Sydney or Melbourne markets. This process was contingent upon weather conditions, as unpaved roads posed significant challenges during inclement weather. Des also supplemented his income by delivering provisions and fuel to Montagu Island weekly, weather permitting. It was a cherished occasion for the three island families to convene and greet the arrival of the boat. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

🌊 Winter is the perfect time to warm up with delicious seafood dishes! At Narooma Seafood Direct, we're here to help you create comforting meals that bring warmth to your table.

Our fresh, locally-sourced seafood is perfect for hearty chowders, warming fish curries, and soul-satisfying seafood soup and pasta dishes. Let us help you discover how versatile seafood can be in your winter cooking journey.

Our recipe of the week is a hearty Fisherman's Soup. Perfect for these cold winter days.


Serves 4
Ingredients
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
½ cup chopped celery
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
500g tomatoes, peeled & chopped
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary + extra
½ teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
1 tablespoon all purpose flour
¾ cup dry white wine
6 cups water
250g Swordfish/Ling
250g Gurnard/skinned Dory
250g uncooked prawns
1 Calamari tube cut into rings
Sea Salt
Extra Virgin olive oil

Preparation

1. Heat 3 tablespoons oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion, celery and garlic. Stir in tomatoes, parsley, rosemary and peppers & saute for 2 minutes. Sprinkle flour over. Stir 2 minutes. Add wine & cook until liquid evaporates. Add 6 cups water. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes.
2. Add all seafood to soup base. Cook just until seafood is opaque in the centre, about 3 minutes. Season with salt.
3. Ladle soup into 4 bowls. Sprinkle with additional parsley and sea salt. Drizzle with olive oil.
4. Serve with crusty bread.
