The weather can’t decide what season it is, but this week’s boxes absolutely can - they’re built for either a bright, crunchy salad or a cosy spring vegetable soup.

You’ll find espigalls of Branchu de Poitou (the tender, leafy shoots from a French heirloom brassica - think “sweet, delicate mini‑broccoli tops”) and kale espigalls (the young flowering shoots of kale, perfect for quick sautés or tossing through pasta). Just trim the ends, sauté or steam for a few minutes, and finish with olive oil, lemon, or a bit of garlic.

Alongside those: cherry tomatoes, spring onion, red cabbage, broccoli, baby carrots, cauliflower, and the stunning ‘Purple Glory’ from York Town Organics - sure to make your salads look like a work of art!

Plus heaps more seasonal goodness tucked in.

The change of seasons has brought a few shifts in what’s coming out of the farms. I cut up the last of this season’s pumpkin this morning (sad face), and the carrots have finished until January.

But there are some lovely new things to enjoy - the large boxes have sweet ‘Angel’ cherry tomatoes, and we’re welcoming back York Town Organics with their beautiful micro salad. It’s perfect as a garnish, or piled onto a cracker with hommus and pickled walnut for a quick snack.

A fresh mix of late‑season treats and early spring surprises. Enjoy. 🌿

A huge thanks to the wonderful BB team who kept everything running smoothly while I was up in Queensland soaking up some warmth. Sadly it wasn’t a BB junket to tropical fruit farms — just me supervising 40 teenagers in my 'other' job (so, absolutely not a holiday!).

This week’s boxes were the last for winter, and while early spring doesn’t bring a big produce shift, some of you may find a little surprise tucked inside next week’s vegie box.

We’ve had some beautifully still, sunny winter days lately. And honestly, the only thing better than eating soup by a warm open fire is sitting outside in the winter sun, rugged up with a steaming bowl in hand.

This week’s boxes brought White Eye potatoes and beautiful cauliflower — perfect for soups, stews and curries.

After a few weeks’ hiatus, the leafy greens from Hobbit Hort are back too: Tuscan kale and the gorgeous Branchu du Poitou, just in time for hearty winter cooking.

Crisp winter goodness incoming in this week’s vegie boxes - the greens are snappy, the roots are sweet, and the Yukon Gem potatoes are shining as the ultimate all‑rounder for roasting, mashing or tossing into a hearty soup.

If you’re staring down your celeriac wondering what on earth to do with it, you’re not alone. Matt from Elphin Grove Farm handed me a stack of their celeriac recipe pamphlets when I visited earlier this week. I didn’t quite have enough for everyone, but if you find one tucked into your box, enjoy the inspiration.

Large boxes also include new‑season walnuts in shell - so much better this way, with that fresh, sweet flavour and all their natural vitamins and minerals intact. If you’d like extra, they’re available as an add‑on: $8 for 500g.

And it’s the last week of tomatoes 😢 Enjoy those final bursts of summer while they’re still here.
