Have you been in to the shop to see what’s on the shelves lately?

It may be small, but our shopfront is filled with loads of lovely bits and pieces from our local area, as well as some ‘pantry staples’ from further afield - come and check it out today! The door is open from 10am - 1pm, and the volunteers would love to see you.

Have you ever cooked floppy old vegies you didn't want to waste, but worried that they held no nutrition for your family? Don't fret. A study from the Uni of California (Cefola et al 2015) has shown that anti-oxidant levels go up in vegies stored for a week or two, even though they are yellowing and looking poorly. This makes perfect sense to a plant physiologist: vegies in the fridge go floppy, meaning that the cells are drought stressed, and they will have to make anti-oxidants to save themselves. So if your food budget is tight or you just don't like throwing out food, you can feel better that your floppy old vegies are still doing you some good. 🥖 This week we have some different loaves from Lisa at Coastal Kitchen. Try the anything but ‘plain’ sourdough, made with a blend of stoneground whole rye and white bakers flour, or branch out and give the sunflower, pumpkin and sesame loaf a go. If you like your bread with additions, have a try of the olive loaf, or the spiced fruit loaf - they all sound delicious to us! Baked in the wood fire in Eaglehawk Neck - yum. 🔥

Orders close today at 5pm - see you on the weekend!
