As part of National Reconciliation Week, we came together to reflect on connection, allyship and the stories we create in our workplaces. We heard from Dr Paul Callaghan, who reminded us that true inclusion comes from how we show up every day - ensuring others feel seen, heard and valued🤝

Inclusive cultures are built through everyday actions: how we communicate, show respect and support one another 🌱

Together, All In.

Meet Garry - one of our dedicated truck drivers in the Metcash NT team 🚚

With a long and varied career behind the wheel - from courier work to taxi driving, aged‑care transport, mini‑bus driving and even chauffeuring - Garry has spent most of his working life on the road.

Two years ago, he joined the Metcash team in the Northern Territory. He knew he wanted to stay on the road, and eventually he was given the opportunity to step into a truck‑driving role, which he's truly embraced.

Each morning starts with checking pallets before heading out across Darwin to deliver to local customers. If something’s missing, Garry doesn’t hesitate to head back to the warehouse to make sure every delivery gets where it needs to go.

What drives him most is helping people. Supporting local businesses is what motivates him — and it’s what defines us at Metcash. Garry embodies exactly what makes Metcash the driving force behind independent retail, connecting locals with the products they love.

We’re proud to celebrate a truly remarkable milestone for one of our own, John Hale 👏

John has been a true cornerstone of the VIC ALM business for an extraordinary 50 years, contributing across five different sites and leaving a lasting impact everywhere he’s worked. He began his journey in the ALM costing team before moving into stock, where he became a trusted and consistent partner for suppliers over the decades.

Known for his integrity, strong work ethic, and sharp sense of humour, John’s presence has shaped both the culture and success of the teams around him. His knowledge, relationships, and dedication are nothing short of remarkable.

A fitting tribute to this legacy - John is pictured here in front of a meeting room at our Truganina site, proudly named in his honour.

Thank you, John, for everything you’ve contributed over the past half century. A true legend of the business. 🏆

Over the past few weeks, IGA stores across the network have proudly sponsoring a national fundraiser for one of our valued charity partners, Special Olympics Australia. 🌟

Recently, Metcash Food CEO Grant Ramage attended a special lunch to celebrate Special Olympics Australia’s 50th anniversary, where he reflected on our 34-year partnership - a relationship built on our shared values and inclusion and community.

Over this time, IGA retailers, suppliers and shoppers have raised more than $3.4 million through the IGA Community Chest program and other fundraising initiatives. These contributions help local clubs thrive, providing people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism access to regular sport, programs, social connection and a strong sense of belonging within their communities.

Metcash and IGA are proud to support the athletes and volunteers at the National Games by providing food and beverages, and we look forward to once again being a major supporter at this year’s Games in Melbourne this October. As part of this ongoing commitment, IGA also donated $50,000 at the lunch in support of the Games. 🏅

Together, we're helping create meaningful, lasting impact in the communities we serve.

Pictured are some of our team who attended the lunch: Hitesh Palta, an IGA Multistore owner, Grant Ramage, Helen Kealy and Britany Dela Cruz

Last week at the Metcash Food Supplier of the Year Awards, we were proud to welcome our long‑standing charity partners: Special Olympics Australia, the McGrath Foundation and the Humpty Dumpty Foundation.

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities across Australia, this year’s event delivered an incredible result - raising over $450,000 for our charity partners, with a further $20,000+ raised through raffle tickets on the night.

⭐ Special Olympics Australia has been empowering people with intellectual disabilities through sport, health and leadership for decades - and we’re proud to have stood alongside them for more than 30 years.

🩷 For just over a decade, we’ve supported the McGrath Foundation as they work to place specialist cancer nurses across the country, supporting individuals and families throughout their cancer journey.

🏥 The Humpty Dumpty Foundation plays a vital role in delivering life‑saving medical equipment to paediatric wards, neonatal units and maternity departments in more than 500 hospitals nationwide.

We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with these outstanding organisations and to support the vital work they do for Australians every single day.

What an incredible night at our annual Supplier of the Year event! 🎉

Our brilliant MCs, Tim McDonald and Concetta Caristo, brought humour, energy and so much heart to the room as we celebrated the suppliers who consistently go above and beyond to back local brilliance.

This event is always a special night for us – it’s a chance to recognise the amazing partners we work alongside. At Metcash, we simply couldn’t do what we do without the dedication, passion and innovation of our supplier community.

At Metcash we’re committed to preventing food waste, and when wastage occurs, keeping it out of landfill. That’s why we partner with food rescue organisations across our sites.

Ove the last 8 months, we have redirected 800kg of surplus food generated as part of new product development processes from our Sydney Head Office to our charity partner Hands & Feet, making a real difference for communities and our planet.

This initiative was created by a team of our incredible employees — a great example of what’s possible when passionate people come together to make a meaningful impact.

Here’s what that impact looks like:
✅ 1,600 meals provided to people in need
✅ 800kg of food redistributed — about the weight of a grizzly bear 🐻
✅ 2,000kg of CO₂ was saved rather than going to waste - equal to driving 8,000km (roughly Sydney to Perth and back)
✅ 1.2 million litres of water generated through production of the food put to use rather than lost — that’s around 8,000 long showers 🚿

We’re proud to work with organisations like Hands & Feet that turn surplus into something truly meaningful — supporting people, reducing waste, and protecting our environment.
