💐 MY FLOWER PICK OF THE WEEK — DELPHINIUM! 💙🩷🤍

There is something truly elegant about Delphiniums! This week, I’m loving these gorgeous blooms in blue, pink and white. Their tall, graceful flower spikes add height, texture and a touch of garden romance to any arrangement. 😍

💙 BLUE — Striking, timeless and elegant. Blue Delphiniums are particularly special because naturally occurring true-blue flowers are relatively rare.

🩷 PINK — Soft, pretty and romantic, bringing warmth and a delicate pop of colour.

🤍 WHITE — Fresh, classic and sophisticated, perfect for creating that beautiful, timeless look.

🌸 FUN FLOWER FACTS!
✨ The name Delphinium comes from the Greek word delphis, meaning dolphin, inspired by the shape of the flower buds.
✨ They are also known as larkspur and belong to the buttercup family.
✨ Each tall stem carries multiple little blooms that open progressively from the bottom upwards.
✨ In the language of flowers, Delphiniums are associated with an open heart, positivity and a big-hearted spirit.
✨ They are a favourite for weddings and special occasions because their tall, elegant stems create beautiful height and movement in floral designs. 💐

🌿 HOW TO KEEP YOUR DELPHINIUMS FRESH!

💧 Trim the stems at an angle before placing them in a clean vase.
💧 Remove any leaves that sit below the waterline.
💧 Change the water every 2 days and top it up daily.
☀️ Keep your arrangement in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight, heaters and ripening fruit.
🌸 Handle the stems gently, as their tall stems can bend or break.

With the right care, you can generally enjoy these beauties for around 5–8 days, sometimes longer.

Australia in a vase. Explosion of colour and beauty !

🌸 A COLOUR EXPLOSION OF SPRING! 🌸

There is something about this time of year that makes the flower world feel like it has turned the colour dial ALL the way up! 💕🧡💜❤️

Just look at these magnificent Dahlias — layers upon layers of petals in the most incredible shades of coral, peach, hot pink, magenta, purple and everything in between. No wonder they’re often called the jewels of the garden.

🌺 Dahlias
Originally from Mexico and Central America, dahlias have been cultivated for centuries and were introduced to Australia from Britain in the early 1800s. And here’s a fun fact — their hollow stems were once used to carry water! Their incredible genetics also make them wonderfully diverse, which is why there are so many colours, shapes and sizes.

❤️ Waratahs — our spectacular Australian icon
And then there’s the magnificent Waratah! The NSW floral emblem since 1962, these extraordinary native flowers have been admired in Australia for generations. Their huge flower heads can reach around 15 cm across, and their brilliant colour against deep green foliage makes them impossible to miss.

🔥 A little Waratah history: after bushfire, the plant can reshoot from its underground lignotuber — sometimes producing multiple stems. So there’s a beautiful story of resilience and renewal hidden beneath that spectacular bloom. 🌿

🦘 Kangaroo Paw
One of my favourite quirky Australian natives! Its furry, tubular flowers really do resemble a little kangaroo paw — and those tiny hairs aren’t just for decoration. The flowers are adapted for pollination by birds such as honeyeaters. The red-and-green kangaroo paw is also the floral emblem of Western Australia.

🌿 Geraldton Wax
And to soften all that colour, beautiful Geraldton Wax brings those delicate little blooms and wonderful texture. It’s one of Australia’s much-loved native cut flowers and is particularly valued for its longevity once cut.

✨ And speaking of longevity…

Our Australian natives are the marathon runners of the flower world! Waratahs can have a vase life of around up to two weeks, while kangaroo paw and Geraldton wax are commonly listed around 7–14 days under suitable conditions.

Dahlias, on the other hand, are a little more fleeting — and perhaps that’s part of their magic. Some varieties can last around a week or more with good care, but they don’t have the same staying power as many natives.

🌸 Spring is certainly showing off! 🌸

My poppies are just bursting into life with the most magnificent, bright colours! 🌺 Such amazingly large, delicate flowers, with their tiny stamens dancing in the centre and catching the light. I never quite know what colour is going to appear next — and that’s part of the magic! ✨

And then there are our beautiful spring blossoms, arriving in an array of gorgeous colours, perfectly complimenting this beautiful spring weather. 🌿🌸

Of course, the blossoms will eventually drop their flowers… but that’s the beauty of bringing the branches indoors. You get a front-row seat to watch every little bud slowly open, each flower revealing its own unique shape and beauty. 🤍

🌸 A few fun blossom facts:
• Many flowering branches can be brought indoors while still in bud and will continue to open in the warmth of your home.
• Blossom is often a sign that spring has arrived because the flowers appear before or around the time new leaves emerge.
• Those delicate petals don’t last forever — but their short season is exactly what makes blossom so special.
• Some flowering branches can last for days or even weeks indoors when cared for properly.
• And every branch is a little different — no two arrangements will ever open exactly the same way. 🌸

🌺 POPPY MAGIC 🌺

There’s something so exciting about poppies… I love the mystery of waiting for them to open, wondering what colour is going to pop out! ❤️🧡💗💜 And then deciding which one becomes my favourite. 😍

🌿 Did you know?

✨ Poppy buds often arrive tightly wrapped in their hairy, fuzzy sepals — I just love those little hairy stems and buds!

🎨 Their colours can be wonderfully varied, from vibrant reds and oranges to pinks, whites, purples and even delicate two-toned blooms.

🌸 Poppies are surprisingly short-lived as cut flowers, but their delicate, crinkly petals make every bloom feel extra special.

💧 A little tip when arranging poppies: they don’t like sitting in lots of water. Keep the vase water shallow rather than filling the vase, and they’ll be much happier.

And perhaps my favourite thing about poppies… you never quite know what beauty is hiding inside that little furry bud until it opens. 🌺✨
