A little family update from us. ❤️

Paul is having an incredible time in Poggioreale and making me so proud. He is embracing every moment, learning so much about the history of the earthquake and taking part in so many special events and celebrations. I still can’t get over how wonderful his Sicilian is! Watching his journey unfold has brought me so much joy.

As for me, it’s been quite a week with two surgeries. I am incredibly grateful to have Professor Chan in my corner. After the first procedure, I followed every instruction to the letter — 24 hours lying completely flat and still, like a snow globe that couldn’t be shaken. Unfortunately, when the dressing was removed the following morning, we discovered the cornea had not taken. I think it’s fair to say we were both disappointed.

But I wasn’t prepared to stay in that dark place for long. Professor Chan acted immediately and had me back in surgery that same afternoon for round two. For that care, dedication and support, I am truly thankful.

I’ve just woken up at 11:56 pm, with four minutes left before a brand-new day begins. It feels like the perfect time to choose hope, gratitude and positivity.

While I miss my soulmate terribly, following Paul’s adventures in Poggioreale is keeping my spirits high. And having my family around me here reminds me every day that I am surrounded by love, strength and support.

One day at a time, and trusting that everything will be okay. ❤️

💙 Hope in a Suitcase Update 💙

To our wonderful Hope in a Suitcase community,

Firstly, thank you for your incredible support, generosity and kindness. Every donation helps us bring comfort, dignity and hope to children entering foster care, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you.

To date, we have proudly donated 368 bags to children in need. This is only possible because of the amazing people who continue to support our mission.

A special thank you goes to my beautiful volunteer Sandy who at very short notice, stepped in to help me pack and deliver an urgent order of 9 bags overnight. Your willingness to help whenever needed never goes unnoticed, and we are so grateful for your ongoing dedication.

We have also had the pleasure of meeting and partnering with Lee Walsh from My Glory. Their team has been helping to collect and sort donations, and it has been wonderful to see so many people contributing to our cause. I am incredibly grateful that Hope in a Suitcase can be a place where everyone feels included and valued. Seeing people of all abilities come together to support vulnerable children is truly heartwarming and reminds us that kindness has no barriers.

We would also like to let everyone know that our drop-off location, High St Flower Market, 201–208 High Street, Willoughby, will be temporarily closed for donations for two weeks.

On Wednesday, I will be undergoing a corneal transplant. As you can imagine, I am feeling a little nervous, but also incredibly hopeful and excited. I am deeply grateful to my donor and their family for the precious gift they have given me. Their generosity will have a life-changing impact, and I will carry that gratitude with me always. Also a huge thankyou to Professor Colin Chan from Vision Eye Institute for all his ongoing care. He is an amazing professor and I am so grateful to be in his hands .

Our donation drop-off point will reopen on 25 June. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding during this time.

As the colder months are now upon us, the need for donations continues, so please keep collecting and holding onto your wonderful contributions. We look forward to receiving them when we reopen.

Thank you again for your ongoing support, kindness and belief in what we do. Together, we are making a real difference in the lives of children who need it most.

With heartfelt gratitude,

The Hope in a Suitcase Team 💙

Update In A Suitcase-Sydney

It has been a huge week getting 88 suitcases out to Department of Community and Justice Offices, ready to be handed out to our vulnerable babies to teens. Who would think so many children are unsafe living at home. We have also had children arrive from interstate as there are not enough carers. I wanted to share this video clip of a child being removed, whilst Shelby is a little girl who is well loved she is portraying the traumatic situation of a child leaving with very little of her own belongings .

Can I please ask that over the next month if you’re collecting items to donate that you keep hold of them. I have unfortunately hurt my back and I’m having surgery on Thursday. I will need a few weeks of not lifting, pulling, bending or twisting( this will be very interesting as I have ants in my pants 😂)

We definitely still need your on going donations , please don’t forget these children who need our help and strong message of HOPE.

Much gratitude and love for all your support.

Fran and Paul x
