udgy walnut brownies made with Origin Chocolate's delectable dark chocolate and coconut oil to delicious macadamia and almond cookies made with macadamias from the beautiful Atherton Tablelands, these treats do not disappoint! We also produce Heavenly Hazel, a delightfully rich and decadent choc hazelnut spread that contains 65% hazelnuts, unrefined sugar and no added nasties. Over the past few years, I’ve discovered that I feel much better without refined sugar, dairy and gluten in my diet, but what's life without treats? My desire to develop wholesome alternatives for myself that still satisfied my sweet tooth has blossomed into a passion for working with the many people dealing with food allergies and intolerances or just looking to make healthier choices. WE HAVE OUR HEAVENLY HAZEL WINNERS!

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to participate in our Heavenly Hazel survey. Your input is so important to us and with 148 survey responses we have plenty of feedback to digest!

As promised, it's now time to announce the two winners of a 750g jar of chocolatey deliciousness. Drum roll... and the winners are:

If you missed out but still want some chocolatey goodness (think: cool, locally hand-crafted gifts OR awesome ingredient for Christmas baking), we have still have a limited supply of the 200g jars available on our website. The 2kg tubs and 750g jars have already sold out! Best be quick though as they are selling out quickly and we won't be producing again until February 2023.

The past six months have been such an important time of re-connection and rejuvenation for our family, and we have continued working on how to take Heavenly Hazel forward sustainably.

After a few teething issues, we are now producing Heavenly Hazel at the FNQ Incubator in Cairns. We still live in Townsville, but I travel up to Cairns every few months to produce Heavenly Hazel.

We have also been reviewing the economics. Since its release in 2017, we haven't adjusted Heavenly Hazel's pricing. In the last 3 years, the cost of production has risen by over 30%. Every aspect has been affected, including the ingredients, packaging, labels, and freight. We have been investigating ways to offset these increases without compromising the quality and integrity of our product.

As valued customers, we would like to seek your feedback via the customer survey below. Please feel free to share our survey link with others who might be willing to share their thoughts.

As a thank you for your time and support, each person who has submitted a completed survey by midnight on Tuesday 22nd November, will be entered into a random draw (terms and conditions on our website). HEAVENLY HAZEL IS BACK!!

I am thrilled to share that we produced our first big batch of Heavenly Hazel, our rich and decadent choc hazelnut spread at the FNQ Food Incubator in Cairns today. We made 150kg of chocolatey goodness utilising the amazing equipment and support that the Incubator offers small foodie businesses like ours.

It was such a big and exciting step for us after closing our commercial kitchen in Townsville 3 months ago. I thoroughly enjoyed some downtime and QT with my family and now feel ready to get back into it and continue sharing our story and products with our growing community.

Our website (www.nourishingbites.com.au/onlineshop) is already loaded with all the products we produced today – on offer is 200g jars, 750g jars and 2kg tubs (for the big consumers like ourselves) of our Ultra Premium 65% Heavenly Hazel. Our next production run will likely be in 2-3 months so be sure to grab plenty of supplies to get you through!

If you’re new to Heavenly Hazel, it is our wonderfully delicious choc hazelnut spread made from high quality, clean ingredients that actually love you back. Our original Ultra Premium product is made 65% roasted hazelnuts, dark chocolate and only ~20% unrefined sugar and has a delightful chocolatey hazelnut flavour. Also, it is 100% GF and vegan and contains no added nasties.

I felt so honoured to receive this award on behalf of my family at the QLD Reconciliation Awards in Cairns last night.

This year actually marks 20 years since Daniel and I first met in Cairns and formed our life partnership. Daniel was rolling out the Cape York Digital Network and I was seconded from BCG in Sydney to support various business initiatives in Cape York including Daniel’s project. Daniel is a Yadhaigana man of traditional lands near Shelbourne Bay Cape York and spent his early years on Thursday Island. I am of British descent and grew up in Sydney.

Our connection was immediate and we quickly began our journey of learning about each other’s cultures and worlds living together in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns and now in Townsville. A significant part of our journey has also been making dietary changes to resolve various health issues and naturally conceive our son, Pacey-James. We both found that by cutting out gluten and dairy and limiting our sugar intake we became much healthier and energetic, an issue shared by many others in our community.

I started creating our own treats that were packed full of high quality, nourishing ingredients to share with friends and family. This ignited a passion for supporting health and wellbeing in our community, so in 2013 we established Nourishing Bites offering delicious gluten, dairy and refined sugar free treats.

Nourishing Bites is based on mutual trust and respect and equally represents & reconciles the culture, values and perspectives of each of us.

We see our business and products as a ‘message stick’ for our mission of supporting unity and sustainable health and wellbeing. We share our passion and story as a proud Indigenous family business. Our son is very proud of his mixed heritage and firmly believes that his “magic caramel skin” will heal the world.

By incorporating Australian Native Botanicals into our products we aim to showcase the unique and delicious flavours of Australian native ingredients, celebrate Australia’s rich cultural heritage and support sustainable Indigenous Agriculture.

Seeking Lovers of Vegan Chocolate!

We were so lucky to find Debb and her amazing vegan bean to bar chocolate in Melbourne.

We utilised her dark, milk and white chocolate in our treats and offering you the chance to buy a 2kg block of chocolatey goodness for home.

We have a number of blocks of untempered milk and white chocolate left for $35 per 2kg block. That is amazing value and if you keep it in the fridge it will last for ages. Unless you gobble it all up of course!

Please PM if you are interested in picking up a block or two tomorrow from the Nook. After that the last fridge is being turned off and the rest of the chocolate goes home with me!!

NOOK GARAGE SALE IS ON AGAIN TODAY!!

Thanks so much to everyone who has come and purchased a piece of Nourishing Bites' history. It's really nice hearing all your stories of where each piece of equipment is going and how it will be re-utilised 🙏🥰

We are having another garage sale this afternoon between 4-6pm at The Nook (Unit 8, 197 Ingham Road, West End).

I have attached pics of all the items we still have on offer. The prices are marked on each item.

In terms of hospitality equipment we still have:

1. Mobile stainless steel bench (3,000L x 1,000W x 900H) ($2,500)

2. Simply Stainless double sink bench (including shelf and tapware) ($2,000)

3. Eswood 2020 SW500 Commercial Undercounter Dishwasher ($3,000)

4. Stainless Steel gastronorm trolley (16 levels) ($135)

Cash is preferred for purchases under $1,000 but we do have EFTPOS available.

GARAGE SALE AT THE NOOK TOMORROW!

We are now well into the process of packing up our kitchen and have lots of things to sell that we no longer need including (but not limited to):

- Nook serving ware (platters, plates, coco gelato bowls, small serving dishes, tea pots, coffee mugs, glasses)
- Pyrex jugs and bowls (various sizes)
- Baking trays (muffin, donut, brownie and flat)
- Baking utensils (various)
- Bread maker and 2 pie makers (used for GF pancakes)
- Large stock pot
- Induction cooktop ($100)

We also have some furniture and hospitality equipment available too:

- Nook tables (large ones and little coffee tables except not the big white one) ($15-40)
- Nook Topaz cake display cabinet ($2,000)

HOW CUTE ARE THESE TWO?!!

We are beyond grateful that my awesome Mum and Dad hopped on a plane from Sydney to be here to help us in our final days in the NB kitchen.

They have both donned the NB apron with pride and have been helping behind the scenes with all manner of tasks. From washing up to folding boxes and everything in between, they have been working hard over the past week to help us deliver your last goodie boxes and prepare to close the kitchen.

We will be doing our final bake tomorrow and then preparing to pack down over the next few days.
By the way I should have been clearer in my announcement about our new plans. Although the production of Heavenly Hazel will be moving to the FNQ Food Incubator in Cairns our little family will remain here in Townsville. We LOVE our community here and definitely won't be leaving. The plan is to travel up to Cairns every 2-3 months to do big batch runs of Hazel and distribute them here.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us in our final week. It means so much to us and it has been SO lovely seeing your smiling faces one last time, for a little while at least.

Although I may not be posting every day we will certainly be keeping this page going and keeping you updated on all news over the coming weeks and months. For now, please cross your fingers and toes that we win the Northern Australian Development Grant we applied for so we can buy the awesome hazelnut crusher we need to take Heavenly Hazel to the next level.

We are doing our last bake of our fudgy walnut brownies tomorrow. This was our very first product and it is only fitting that it is the last to be baked in this kitchen. I have just listed a bunch of big boxes at a super special price on our website (yep 18 for $75, normally $90).

It has been SO lovely seeing many of our lovely customers over the past few days. Your support means the world to us and we will dearly miss seeing you all on a regular basis 🥰😥

Many of you were sad to have missed out on our glorious Heavenly Hazel crunch bars... so I have committed to doing one final run so everyone gets to enjoy them one last time.. please note that this run will not be vegan friendly (contain eggs) but still super rich and decadent!

WE HAVE SOME MORE GOODIES UP FOR GRABS //

Thank you so much for all your beautiful messages since we made our announcement. We absolutely love what we do and it means the world to us to hear that you love our business and products too 🥰🙏

We are also SO grateful for all the orders you've placed over the last few days. We are doing our best to make as many treat boxes available as possible. Now that we've almost caught up on your orders we have added more goodies to the website for you.

We've added limited numbers of:
- Mini brownie hearts (box of 8)
- choc hazelnut truffles (box of 15)
- choc PB truffles (box of 15)
- choc peppermint truffles (box of 15)

We have also made lots of Heavenly Hazel for you. There will likely be a gap in availability whilst we transition to our new production facility so make sure you've got enough to get you through. I know that a day without Hazel in our house is not a happy one! 🤣

If you live outside of Townsville, you order will be shipped on Tuesday and will arrive by next Friday.

Our goodies can be frozen for up to 12 months so a great opportunity to stock up on your favourite NB treats.

ANNOUNCEMENT //

With sadness, we share with you our decision to close our commercial kitchen and end the production of our nourishing treats range on Monday, 14 February. We are so grateful for your continued support and custom, but with the significant decrease in our hospitality wholesale trade due to the pandemic, we have had to rethink our business.

As a result, we will be focusing on our Heavenly Hazel product range. Heavenly Hazel is more robust and much easier to transport, so it is a more viable product for us to grow and promote to new markets further afield. We will be moving the production of Heavenly Hazel to the FNQ Food Manufacturing Hub, a larger-scale production facility that supports small food businesses like ours to scale up production.

For one final week, we will continue the production of our nourishing treats and encourage you to order your favourites via our website by Wednesday. Boxes of our rich and decadent brownie hearts are also available and are perfect for Valentine's day, our last day of trade.

Online orders will be available for collection from The Nook during the following pick up windows:
- Friday 11 February 4-6pm
- Saturday 12 February 9-11am
- Monday 14 February 4-6pm, then we close our doors.

As you can appreciate, this has been a tough decision for us and we will really miss seeing you all on a regular basis. Still, we are optimistic about the future of Nourishing Bites and looking forward to seeing where this next chapter takes us. We would like to sincerely thank you again for believing in us, our story and our products. Our business dreams would not have been possible without you.

THE NB CHRISTMAS 2021 TEAM HAS OFFICIALLY SIGNED OFF!

These 3 wonderful ladies - Brenda Hamilton, Melissa Arlett and Olive Gesa have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to deliver your NB Christmas goodies this year. Also a special mention to Kristen McGovern and Lyn Nunan for their support too.

Our team was much smaller this year which meant lots of extra pressure and responsibility for these ladies. Not only did they step up to the plate but they delivered our full Christmas range on point and on time! ....And with a big smile on their faces the entire time! After such a hard year, it felt amazing to share the kitchen with these amazing ladies and I am so grateful for their support 🙏

We are closing for a well earned break and will be returning to the kitchen on January 10.

Before I officially sign off we do have a few extra goodies available to add something unique and special (not to mention inclusive) to your Christmas celebration or a list minute gift for that someone special (who may well be you :). I have re-loaded the website this evening with limited numbers of the following items:
