The Victorian Farmers’ Markets Association is the body that certifies the authenticity of farmers’ markets in Victoria. There are 33 VFMA-accredited farmers’ markets across the state. Our accreditation system means that shoppers can be sure they are buying freshly harvested, seasonal, local food direct from the person who grew, reared, baked or caught it. And it means local food producers receive the full retail price for their work.

Farming is part of every day, whether we see it or not.

Food doesn’t just appear on a shelf. There are people, places, seasons and a lot of work behind it before it reaches us.

That connection can be easy to lose, especially in a food system built around convenience.

But with increasingly unpredictable weather and growing pressure on farmers, it matters that we understand what sits behind the food we eat, and that the people caring for land and producing food are properly supported.

At Sustainable Table, that’s a big part of what we work on. We support regenerative farmers and food enterprises, help connect them with the right expertise and finance, and share the stories that can shift how food and farming are valued.

A stronger food system isn’t about putting more responsibility on individuals. It’s about building better conditions around the people already doing the work.
