Victorian Farmers' Markets Association

Victorian Farmers' Markets Association We support authentic farmers markets, small-scale agriculture and artisan food producers in Victoria. View our website www.vfma.org.au to find one near you.

The Victorian Farmers’ Markets Association is the body that certifies the authenticity of farmers’ markets in Victoria. There are 33 VFMA-accredited farmers’ markets across the state. Our accreditation system means that shoppers can be sure they are buying freshly harvested, seasonal, local food direct from the person who grew, reared, baked or caught it. And it means local food producers receive the full retail price for their work.

🥛 Happy World Milk Day! 🥛
Today we celebrate the dairy farmers who nourish our communities — the early mornings, the care for animals, the stewardship of land, and the commitment to producing safe, high‑quality milk for Victorian families.

Did you know that our VFMA Executive Officer, Sarah Parker, is also a long‑time dairy farmer herself. Sarah and her husband Raymond, farm in the Goulburn Valley, breeding climate‑resilient Illawarra cattle and championing sustainable, future‑focused dairy production.

Dairy farmers are a vital part of our accredited farmers’ markets — bringing milk, cheese, yoghurt, butter and so many beautiful handcrafted products directly to shoppers. When you buy from a VFMA Accredited Farmers’ Market, you’re supporting real farmers, real herds, and real local food systems.

So today, raise a glass to the people and animals behind the milk — the farmers, makers and market communities who keep Victoria connected to fresh, local dairy. 🐄💛

We are often asked how we select producers for our VFMA Accredited market - and we think that this is a great question! Here's a few things to know:

🥦 It's important to us that our market be producer driven, prioritising seasonal, direct, Victorian-based farmers who grow what they sell themselves.

🪴 Our speciality artisan producers are carefully chosen to prioritise local, seasonal ingredients (even better if they grow it themselves) that offers something different to mass-produced goods.

🍎 We do have a limited number of ready-to-eat producers (because everyone gets hungry at a market). These are carefully curated as they must offer something unique, and complement the farmer-led core, enhancing, not overwhelming the market experience. Heck, even the coffee served at our market is roasted locally!

Shopping at our market guarantees that you’re supporting local farmers and small producers, reducing transport distance, and keeping regional traditions and knowledge alive.
