5 whole years of being the director, manager, administrator, organiser, social media team, accountant, problem solver, customer support, technician, renovator, baker, recruitment manager⦠and worker.
I wanted to quit after the first week of having the shop, I didnāt know enough about business, I wasnāt confident, I was overwhelmed with anxiety and stress. Customers didnāt like the change of ownership, they compared me and underestimated me.
Iāve been incredibly lucky to have the girls I work with. Theyāve never just been staff, theyāre my people. My sisters, my friends, my support system, my team. Theyāve had my back through all the personal and business struggles, just as Iāve had theirs. Iāve watched girls come in for their first job and leave as confident, grown women starting their careers and that is something really special to me.
Weāve had breakdowns, break-ins, and breakupsā¦
Thereās been enough tears to fill the ocean and too many laughs to ever count.
Yellingbo has been the biggest challenge Iāve faced; not just the business itself, but trying to run a business while maintaining a personal life, relationships, hobbies⦠life in general. No one tells you that being in business will break you long before it makes you. That youāll question yourself constantly and wonder if youāll ever reach that āgoalā youāve set in your head.
As someone who is definitely OCD, Iāve had to learn that I canāt control everything, and sometimes it just is what it is. Iāve had ideas that worked, ideas that didnāt, and ideas I never even tried.
When I hesitated about taking over, Dad said, ājust give it 5 years.ā
And here we are. I didnāt think Iād make it. And if I did, I definitely didnāt think it would be successfully.
So next time someone doubts you or compares you, prove them wrong, and learn to love doing it. The Yellingbo Roadhouse has changed me in ways I never expected. Itās given me confidence, strength and opportunities I didnāt think Iād ever have.
So thank you to my family who have always been my biggest supporters and helpers, my staff who literally make it happen and the customers that stayed through the teething stage. š¤
