নতুন মৌমাছি, নাম তার "লুসিফার"
পশ্চিম অস্ট্রেলিয়ার গোল্ডফিল্ডস অঞ্চলে সম্প্রতি বিজ্ঞানীরা আবিষ্কার করেছেন এক বিস্ময়কর নতুন মৌমাছির প্রজাতি- মেগাচাইল লুসিফার। এই মৌমাছির স্ত্রী সদস্যের মুখে রয়েছে ক্ষুদ্র দুটি “শিং”-এর মতো অংশ, দেখতে যেন রাক্ষসীর শিং- আর সেখান থেকেই এসেছে এর ব্যতিক্রমী নাম, লুসিফার।
গবেষক ড. কিট প্রেন্ডারগাস্ট এই মৌমাছিটিকে খুঁজে পান বিরল বন্যফুল Marianthus aquilonarius-এর পরাগ সংগ্রহ করতে গিয়ে। আশ্চর্যের বিষয়, এই ফুলটি যেমন প্রায় বিলুপ্তির পথে, তেমনি মৌমাছিটিও বসবাস করছে এক সংকটাপন্ন আবাসস্থলে- প্রকৃতির এক অনন্য, নাজুক সমন্বয়।

>ডিএনএ পরীক্ষায় নিশ্চিত হয়েছে- এটি সম্পূর্ণ নতুন একটি প্রজাতি; আগে কখনও কোনও জাদুঘর বা ডাটাবেসে এর রেকর্ড পাওয়া যায়নি।
>এই আবিষ্কার আমাদের মনে করিয়ে দেয়, পৃথিবী এখনও নিজের ভেতরে অসংখ্য অজানা জীব লুকিয়ে রেখেছে, যাদের অস্তিত্ব আমরা এখনো চিনি না।
> ড. প্রেন্ডারগাস্ট মজার ছলে বলেছেন- “নতুন প্রজাতি বর্ণনা করার সময় আমি নেটফ্লিক্সের Lucifer দেখছিলাম, আর তখনই নামটা মাথায় আসে!”
> এই আবিষ্কার শুধু রোমাঞ্চকর নয়, এটি আমাদের সতর্ক করে দেয়- খনি প্রকল্প, বন ধ্বংস ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের আঘাতে প্রতিদিনই অজস্র প্রজাতি নিঃশেষ হয়ে যাচ্ছে, যাদের ভূমিকা বাস্তুতন্ত্রে অমূল্য।
> প্রতিটি অঞ্চলের মৌমাছি অনন্য, প্রতিটি উদ্ভিদের সঙ্গে তাদের সম্পর্কও একান্ত নিজস্ব।
> একটি ফুল হারালে, হয়তো হারিয়ে যায় তার একমাত্র পরাগরেণুবাহকও।
> যে ফুলের সঙ্গে মৌমাছির বন্ধন ছিন্ন হয়, সেই ফুলের ভবিষ্যৎও মুছে যায়।

A New Bee, Named "Lucifer"
Scientists in the Goldfields region of Western Australia have recently discovered an amazing new bee species- Megachile Lucifer. The female members of this bee have two small "horn"-like structures on their faces, resembling the horns of a demon – and that's where its unusual name, Lucifer, comes from.
Researcher Dr. Kit Prendergast found this bee while collecting pollen from the rare wildflower Marianthus aquilonarius. Surprisingly, just as this flower is nearing extinction, the bee also lives in a vulnerable habitat – a unique, fragile combination of nature.
Key research findings:
> DNA tests have confirmed that it is a completely new species; no record of it has ever been found in any museum or database.
> This discovery reminds us that the Earth still hides countless unknown creatures within itself, whose existence we do not yet recognize.
> Dr. Prendergast jokingly said, "I was watching Netflix's Lucifer while describing the new species, and that's when the name came to mind!"
