একদিকে পাহাড়ের নৈসর্গিক সৌন্দর্য আর এর তথাকথিত বহু-জাতিক সাংস্কৃতিক সম্প্রীতির বিজ্ঞাপনের ফলাও প্রচারে পর্যটনের প্রসার ঘটানো হচ্ছে, অন্যদিকে একই পাহাড়ের প্রকৃত সন্তানদের নিজভূমি থেকে ছলে-বলে-কৌশলে উচ্ছেদ করে বাস্তুহারা বানিয়ে তাদের জায়গায় ফাইভ-স্টার হোটেল সহ বিনোদনের নানা মাধ্যম স্থাপন করা হচ্ছে, কোলের বাচ্চাকে আজ আসামীর দায়ে পালিয়ে বেড়াতে হচ্ছে অবিচারের পাহাড় থেকে পাহাড়ে, প্রতিবাদী কন্ঠস্বরকে বোবা বানানো হচ্ছে, উন্নয়নের ছায়াতলে ক্রমশ অস্তিত্ব সংকটের দিকে ঠেলে দেওয়া হচ্ছে ।
আর এসবই ঘটছে এক অন্ধকার ছায়ার আড়ালে যেখানো আলো ফোটার বিপরীতে অন্ধকার যেন ক্রমশ গাঢ় হচ্ছে!

অথচ, দেশের অধিকাংশ মানুষ এখনও পাহাড়কে পাহাড়ি তরুণীদের ঐতিহ্যবাহী পোশাকে নৃত্যরত অবস্থায় রোমান্টিকতার প্রতীক হিসেবে দেখে, অথবা লতাপাতা, সাপ-ব্যাঙ খাওয়া কিছু জংলিদের ভয়ংকর আবাসস্থল হিসাবে জানে!

On the one hand, tourism is being promoted by advertising the natural beauty of the Chittagong hill tracts and its so-called multi-cultural harmony, while on the other hand, the real children of the same hills are being tricked out of their native land and various means of entertainment including five-star hotels are being installed in their place. Today, the baby in the lap has to run away from the hill of injustice, the protesting voice is being muted, under the shadow of development, it is being pushed towards the existential crisis.

And all this is happening behind a dark shadow where the darkness is getting darker as opposed to the light!

However, most of the people in the country still see the hills as symbols of romance with hill maidens dancing in traditional costumes, or as the hideous abode of some wild people
