My erstwhile catering company of healthy soups and salads now only remains as a way for me to promote healthy eating while I spend a year in Greece, studying heritage management.

Pohela Baishakh is an agricultural festival that welcomes the new harvest & the new yr. Gold shops & other businesses open the new yr's ledger on this day & I celebrated with mom & a dazzling display of traditional bhortas. (Mashed food) made with garlic & mustard oil
Kalojira or nigella seeds, black sesame, badam or peanut bhorta, taki mach, kackkola or green bananas, potato, eggplant, charred tomato, charred mango bhortas, ranging from my mom's murse's home in the Northern parts of Bangladesh to some of our personal favorites. A mango pickle ny the house help using mustard oil was part of the entree while moringa daal or sojne daal & bhetki fish bhuna added the xtra embellishments.

Maqlooba, dahi-baingan, chapli & shami kababs, mutton curry & lots of warm wishes for Eid. We had my sister over for Eid after 10yrs!

The purest form of Bangladeshi love is the one for kacchi biryani. Ppl will simply attend an event so they can gorge on a plateful of this Mughal inspired dish, said to have taken shape in the 19th Century Avadhi kitchens in Bengal. The addition of potatoes to uncooked (kachi) meat in rice, steamed in a large pot with a dough seal, soaks in the spices & aroma. .

Her sister is a trained chef & made ALL the cakes, cupcakes, sandwiches while I sat beaming at finally not having to lift a finger!!! 😁🤣😂😅 .

Bela biscuits are a household name for tje oldest biscuit brand in Bangladesh. Gani Bakeries founded in 1880s in Chittagong,popularised the biscuit making technique that the Portuguese had taught the local Bengalis. Along with introducing words like pao-ruti or breakfast bread (Portuguese pao), biscuits like Gani's Bela bicuits were earlier called bela butter & are now iconic as the first bite of the morning with tea. Here's to a Portuguese legacy! .

Mom has been very sick so was a muted bday but the neice made a choc-coffee swirl ganache meringue cake! Gratification & prayers to those in Sri Lanka, Thailand & other countries going thru devastating floods!
Here's to a yr of some true wisdom!! .

Radish is thot to hav originated in Southeast Asia but finds mentions in Indian texts since 3BCE. Today I cooked it with shrimp in a typical Bangladeshi combo, eating healthy & delicious in anticipation of my bday! .

Got featured in Conde Nast Traveler, for heritage food in old Dhaka eith its winding lanes & hole in the wall shops that have been selling food primarily sold only there. A boat ride down the Buriganga River, rickshaw rides, a themed lunch & frequent stops to try local snacks.

Mom's belated bday dinner & Epiphany & Xmas at the Armenian Church in Dhk. Built in 1781, the church is witness Armenian businesses that thrived in Dhaka. Sadly, it is now said that there r more buried Armenians than living ones in Bangladesh, this was the local Christian community's way to keep the church actively going. .
