A little bit about Souto Farms

We are very grateful to share our story with all of our customers and friends. As many of you know, we are third generation farmers from Oliver, BC. We are a family owned business and would like to explain a little more to you about what it is we do! We deliver our BC produce to over 23 different markets in Alberta, from Calgary all the way to Edmonton. Farming is a

year around job to make sure every summer we can deliver the finest produce to all our locations. We start by picking the fruit, sorting the fruit into boxes, then deliverying it fresh every week to Alberta. While the four kids are selling the fruit in Alberta, Helena Souto is running the farm, and Alvin Souto is continuously back and forth every week getting the loads ready for each market. Our business is full of love and respect and we want you all to know that your a part of it too! Souto farms, from our family to yours! Also if you are driving by the Okanagan and would like to visit our farm, we are located on Hwy 97 between Oliver, and Osoyoos. Send us a message for more info!

Our cherries on the farm are almost ready! The sun is out, the birds are chirping, and we can’t wait for these wonderful BC cherries to make their way to Alberta tables.

Thank you, Mommy Souto, for nurturing and loving these trees and growing this fruit for all of us to enjoy. 🍒❤️

Guess what season it is? Our fresh BC ASPARAGUS SEASON 🤤

What asparagus is good for nutritionally?

Asparagus is surprisingly nutrient-dense while still being very low calorie.

It’s especially known for:
Folate (vitamin B9)
Important for cell growth, pregnancy health, and energy metabolism.
Fiber
Helps digestion and feeds beneficial gut bacteria.
Vitamin K
Supports bone health and blood clotting.
Antioxidants
Including glutathione, rutin, and quercetin — compounds associated with reducing oxidative stress.
Potassium
Helps with fluid balance and muscle function.
Prebiotic effects
Asparagus contains inulin, a fiber that supports the gut microbiome.
Natural diuretic properties
It contains asparagine, which can increase urine production slightly — part of why people joke about the “asparagus pee” phenomenon.

Best ways to cook peak-season asparagus
When it’s fresh from BC, simpler is better:

Olive oil + salt + hot roast (425°F for ~10 min)
Quick grill with lemon
Blanched and chilled with vinaigrette
Shaved raw into salads
Tossed into pasta or risotto at the end
Eggs + asparagus is elite spring food
Thicker stalks are great roasted or grilled; thinner ones work well sautéed or barely steamed.
