(DRAW CLOSED)
Beltane is upon us! As the wheel of the year turns toward summer, let us celebrate with another seasonal harvest farm-to-table raffle! π π π½
Beltane, traditionally celebrated on May 1st, is a vibrant and joyful pagan festival that marks the beginning of the warm season and celebrates fertility, passion, and the sacred union between the earth and the sky. It's origins are deeply rooted in ancient Celtic traditions, where it is considered one of the most important fire festivals of the year. The name "Beltane" is derived from the Celtics god Bel associated with the sun, and "tane", meaning fire, translating to "bright fire" or "fires of Bel". On this day, large bonfires were lit on hilltops to honour the sun's strength and to encourage the earth's fertility, symbolizing the return of warmth and life to the land. Livestock would be driven between these fires for protection and blessings, and the community would gather for feasting, dancing, and celebration. Beltane is also associated with the Maypole, a symbol of fertility, around which people would dance, weaving ribbons in intricate patterns, representing the intertwining of life, nature, and the union of the divine masculine and feminine.
Beltane is a celebration of life, creativity, and the blossoming of love and passion. It is a time to honour both the earth's fertility and the fertility of the spirit, making it a popular time for handfasting ceremonies (pagan marriages) and rituals focused on abundance, love, and creativity. Many modern celebrations still include dancing around the Maypole, lighting bonfires, and decorating altars with flowers, greenery, and symbols of fertility, such as eggs and seeds. Beltane is often seen as the peak of spring's energy, when the earth is lush and bursting with life, and the energy is of creation is at it's height. Rituals may involve jumping over bonfires or candles to symbolize purification and the spark of new life, as well as invoking the blessing of the god and goddess for abundance in the coming year. It is a time to connect with nature, and embrace the joy and vibrancy of life! Beltane invites celebrants to enjoy the fullness of life, to honour the power of creation, and to nurture the seeds of love, passion, and growth.
In honour of the turning, we are offering 6lb of our homegrown, pasture raised pork sausages. Like everything we do, much forethought and intention has gone into what we prepare. Our pork is fed a simple diet of whole grains, vegetables, and dairy, and our sausages are antibiotic and nitrate free, made with whole ingredients and herbs-- many of which we (or others in our little community) have grown ourselves. The winner will receive 1lb x 6 flavours of our traditional, worldly flavours passed down from our ancestors and elders.
Join us as we embrace and maintain these ancient traditions, and celebrate the fire of life force that is threaded through every seed, soil, nut, baby, and egg--pushing them to grow and bring their medicine into the world!
15 x $5 entries available.
Beltane blessings!
