We're looking for volunteers to help out at the food forest on September 20th and 27th! First up on the 20th, please join us to help put the Madame Keay Dobson-Golletz Memorial Orchard to bed for the winter. We'll plant more grapes inside the perimeter fence to complete the green fence concept that has finally taken root (pun intended). After the grapes, we'll be planting trees in the last couple of orchard rows and attaching wire caging at ground level to protect all the trees against vole damage. Bring gloves, water, bug spray, and a snack; other essential tools will be provided!

The weekend after, on September 27th, we'll revisit our more than 250 protected trees along the riverside trail, replacing broken/bent tubes and stakes, and promoting tubed saplings into cages where growth warrants. It's an inspiring place to work, as many of the largest caged trees at the east end of the restoration are breaking out into mature growth this year. We'll likely be able to remove cages for the first time next summer, so we can reuse them on younger trees! Once again, please bring gloves, water, bug spray, and a snack, and we'll have the tools ready. Come join in the fun on the 27th!
