Spend the afternoon exploring pet-friendly patios, visiting local participating shops, grabbing treats and making your way through Kensington with your furry friend by your side.

Peppinos has been in Bridgeland Riverside for many years, operating an Italian grocery, deli and specialty store. It is also a production centre where many of our products are created, packaged, stored and sold.

We love this community and its residents, many of them regulars. They take pride in their homes and gardens. They support local and show it. So, no surprise the is holding its annual Community Cleanup this Sunday, May 3, and volunteers are needed!

If you haven't already registered for litter clean-up, don't worry, just head to the community hall between 9 am and 11 am and you will be given supplies and an area to clean-up.

Sorry, the BRCA cannot take any more pick-up requests at this time.

DONATIONS:

The Calgary Drop In Centre will be onsite collecting donations of household goods that are in good condition.

NOT ALLOWED:
Items that CANNOT be disposed: car batteries, glass, fridges, freezers, microwaves, liquids, propane tanks, paint, chemicals, railway ties, sod or dirt, compost.

We were stunned to learn 🦎 Waterton Lakes National Park even HAD salamanders, let along the giant long-toed variety! 🦎 Park visitors and locals are encouraged to use caution and carry their reptile repellent. Even in town.😗🦎

Let’s celebrate Parks Canada’s commitment to conservation by talking about the long-toed salamander - a very important part of Waterton’s ecology.

Over the past two decades, staff and volunteers have worked diligently to install fencing and tunnels so that salamanders can safely cross under the entrance road. These efforts have been wildly successful. The salamanders are thriving! Although, their size has increased to the point of concern.

We understand that this may be concerning for some visitors. Please remember we share this landscape with all kinds of wildlife who call this special place home.

Parks Canada is now asking visitors to be extra careful if approached by giant long-toed salamanders. They may become aggressive if they feel threatened, so give them the space they deserve. Don’t leave food unattended at any time. If a salamander approaches, pick up children and small pets. Carry reptile/bear spray and know how to use it.

It’s National Pizza Day in Canada, so it’s the perfect time to remind you about our tasty take-and-bake pies made here in Calgary at our Bridgeland store. Our pizzas are made using our signature 30% whole wheat dough and zesty tomato sauce, which you can also buy frozen to create your own pizzas.

From classics like pepperoni and mushroom and Hawaiian to roasted vegetable and cheese, Peppinos pies go from freezer to a pizza pan or baking sheet in a flash. With this crazy warm weather, you can also take it outside by cooking the frozen pizza on a preheated BBQ (it’s best to leave the lid down and use medium heat).

Some compelling facts from the Field of Crosses on Memorial Drive from CMcalgary.

Tonight at Field of Crosses each memorial cross has a lit candle, with volunteers keeping them going throughout the night.

"Each November over 3700 crosses are erected in a park along Memorial Drive, in Calgary, to pay tribute individually to the thousands of Southern Albertans who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom. In addition, a separate part of the park is set aside, with 120 unique crosses, for a special memorial to the 120,000 heroes from across Canada who lost their lives fighting for this great country. All day and night people walk through the 5 acre memorial, which is illuminated 24/7, reading the crosses and being reminded that our freedom was not free."

Here’s some sensible suggestions from the City of Calgary on how to properly sort Halloween leftovers and packaging after tonight. Please be mindful of little ghouls and goblins crossing streets - some costumes offer limited ability to see. Happy Trick or Treat!

🟢 Green cart: Pumpkin guts and old jack-o’-lanterns (remove all candles, decorations and paint)
