We have loved seeing so many new faces as well as ones that haven't been around for a long time.❤️
We wanted to take a moment and answer some questions and comments that we have received recently.
🥚Our market is a food only farmer first farmers' market.
🥓 We operate one year round market on Saturdays (9-1) in Courtenay and one market in Cumberland on Sundays (10-1).
🫛 Our Saturday market is located in downtown Courtenay at the Native Sons Hall from October to April and then it moves to the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds from April to October.
💐 Our Sunday market is located in downtown Cumberland from June to October
🫐 Our farmers and food producers grow produce seasonally. There are some products such as lettuce and carrots for example that you can find almost all year round. You will not be able to find fresh blueberries at the market outside of the summer/early fall. There are however frozen blueberries at the market.
🌽 We blessed to live in an are where we can grow many things year round (depending on the farm set up). Despite this, fruit and vegetable production does slow down in the winter months. Our farmers do their best to make sure they have lots of planted BUT supply is limited.
🍅 Although farmers may have the capacity to grow more, they are only going to grow the amount of product that they are able to sell. If we want farmers to grow more we have to show the demand.
🍗 As we head into the spring and summer months there will significantly more products and selection. Don't be discouraged if there is not the product selection you are anticipating at the market during January to April.
🥨 Buying local doesn't have to be all or nothing. Start where you can. If buying your cabbage twice a season is all you can do then start there.
🧄 Our farmers and food producers are full of knowledge and are happy to pass this on. If you have a product idea or are curious about a particular vegetable reach out to your favorite farmer.
🥕 The market can be overwhelming with the number of vendors and products especially if you are new. If you have any questions or want to have a market tour to get to know the best place to buy carrots, head over to the Market Information Booth and our staff would love to help you out.
