From May 30 to June 5, here in Campbell River, we are celebrating Go by Bike Week!

A lot of us at Gathering Place choose to bike or scooter to work when we can, and it’s become one of the simple ways we try to lower our impact while enjoying a little more fresh air and connection to the community.

We really believe small everyday choices can add up over time. That’s also why we offer CO₂ credits to team members who bike to work as a small thank you for choosing a lower-impact way to get around. The fun part? Those credits can be used to “buy” spices, herbs, teas, and salt!

There’s something special about slowing down a little and moving through town by bike. You notice the seasons changing, get outside before the workday starts, and feel a bit more connected to the place you live.

At Gathering Place Trading, we take allergen handling and food safety seriously. Our products are carefully processed and packaged in our facility in Campbell River, BC, using strict allergen protocols.

We believe in keeping food simple and transparent:
• No fillers
• No additives
• No preservatives
• Non-irradiated spices

We also conduct routine testing and work closely with our suppliers to support high quality and food safety standards.

A small number of products carry precautionary “may contain” statements related to shared harvesting or processing environments outside our facility.

We know ingredient transparency matters deeply to many families, and we’re always happy to answer questions about specific products 💛

All of our products are hand-packed right here in Campbell River, on Vancouver Island 💛

Behind every bag of tea, spice, herb, or salt is a small team of real people carefully packing, sealing, and labeling each package before it heads out into the world. Some days begin with rooibos tea and finish with clove. Other days, the processing room is filled with the bright colours of rainbow pepper and rows of freshly packed herbs.

On busy days, our small but mighty team packs 2000 to 3000 product packages. From Campbell River to kitchens across Canada - and sometimes even small villages in places like Sweden - every package carries a little piece of our story with it.

As a family-run Canadian company, we've always believed that food should feel personal. Thoughtfully sourced ingredients, packed with intention, by people who genuinely care about what ends up in your kitchen.

There’s something grounding about eating with the seasons.

Fresh foods harvested in their own time often taste better, nourish us differently, and reconnect us to the rhythms of the Earth.

Seasonal eating also supports farmers working closely with the land and helps build a food system rooted more deeply in community, care, and meaningful sourcing.

At Gathering Place, we believe food carries the story of the people and places behind it. From sourcing directly from farmers to supporting Canadian-grown ingredients whenever possible, this connection to the land is at the heart of everything we do.

It’s something we’ve been quietly working on for quite some time. As Gathering Place continues to grow, we wanted to create a space that feels more aligned with who we are as a family-run business rooted in care, connection, and thoughtful sourcing.

As we move through our Clove Month, with 15% off clove whole and clove powder, we wanted to share a few small facts behind this well-loved spice.

Once one of the most valuable spices in the world, cloves travelled across continents, helping to shape early trade routes and connecting distant communities. Today, cloves found a place in kitchens around the globe, becoming part of everyday cooking, baking, and beverage making.

Its warm, slightly sweet aroma comes from natural oils, especially eugenol, which gives clove its depth and gentle richness we love it for.

Each clove is an unopened flower bud, carefully picked while still green and dried until it deepens into its familiar brown colour.

To all the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, caregivers, and nurturing hearts in our community, Happy Mother’s Day! 💛

Today, we’re thinking about the many ways care is woven into everyday life. The hugs, the lovingly prepared meals, the cups of tea shared at the kitchen table, the gardens tended to with patience, the traditions passed down, and the comfort offered through the smallest gestures.

So much of what we value at Gathering Place comes from these moments. As a family-run business, we feel so grateful for the mothers and wonderful women who have shaped not only our own lives, but also the communities and farms connected to our products around the world. Most of the farmers and partners we work with are also family-run businesses, where knowledge, resilience, and love are passed from one generation to the next.
