The winter sown jug experiment is really starting to take off! Considering the absolute rollercoaster of temps they have been exposed to in the past month, I am super impressed with how much growth I already see, and how these seedlings are handling our cold nights this spring (I have done nothing to protect them whatsoever except keeping them well watered). I have nice sized lettuce, sugar snap peas and chamomile jugs that will be ready to open and plant by next week! Thrilled with the results so far.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out for the No Dig Workshop today! We had the most perfect weather to spend the afternoon in the garden, and I am grateful for you giving up a precious Saturday afternoon in May to attend! Zora dusted off her uniform and got back on the clock to be greeter for the crowd. She wow'd everyone with her extensive knowledge of no dig gardening and then how to power nap during the rest of your shift 😴. We had a great time and shared some valuable gardening information for growing our own food! 🙌

I am already seeing some very promising results in my winter sowing jugs. One thing that stands out immediately is how great all my leafy greens (lettuce & spinach) and brassicas (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale & bok choi) are germinating. They are all cold tolerant, and seem to be built for this! This is extremely promising. For anyone who wants to grow their own food without the cost of investing in grow lights and starting seeds indoors, this is a very effective and inexpensive method to grow food in zone 3 🙌.

The winter sowing jug experiment is going well! If you also have jugs started, it's time to pick them up and check their weight. If they are light, they are dry and need watering. If they are heavy, they are good to go. Many of mine were light, so into the pool they went for a quick 5 minute soak via bottom watering. Who doesn't love a little pool time on a sunny, warm day? ☀️😎
