The Agassiz-Harrison Lions Club is pleased to welcome Brigida Crosbie of the Community Angels Food and Housing Support Society and Tydel Foods as our guest speaker at our meeting on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:00 PM. Brigida will present “People Over Profit: How Community Care Improves Health and Prevents Crisis,” sharing how volunteers, donors, local businesses, and community partners work together to provide proper nutrition, connection, and dignity for vulnerable seniors and families. Her presentation will highlight how food security connects directly to physical health, mental well-being, and crisis prevention — demonstrating the power of community-driven support.

Brigida is deeply honoured to be once again invited to Rogers Arena as a BCLC Community Hero during the Canucks game on March 14th

Merry Christmas 🎄 to all of our incredible customers, staff and volunteers

This Christmas, we want to speak to you not just as a business - but as people who live beside you, walk with you, and care deeply about what you are carrying.

These are not easy times. Many of you are facing uncertainty you never imagined. Rising costs. Empty cupboards. Fear about what tomorrow may bring. Quiet worries that keep you awake at night. We see it in the eyes of seniors, in the courage of parents, and in the strength of people who keep showing up even when life feels unbearably heavy.

If you are struggling, please know this first and foremost:
You are not failing. The world is heavy right now.

Christmas came into the world during a time of hardship, not ease. Jesus was born into uncertainty, into poverty, into a world that was broken and afraid. And yet - that birth changed everything. Not because it removed hardship overnight, but because it brought hope that hardship would not have the final word.

This is the heart of Christmas.

Hope is not pretending everything is fine.
Hope is knowing we will get through this - together.

This Christmas Tony and I are choosing to put family and faith ahead of making money. In a world that is constantly rushing and demanding more, we are intentionally slowing down to be present with the people we love and to honour what truly matters. Time together is something we never get back, and we do not want to lose the moments that matter most - the conversations, the laughter, the prayers, and the simple gift of being together. This pause is a reminder that our lives, our families, and our faith are worth more than any transaction.

We want you to hear this clearly: you will be okay. Not because times are easy - but because you are not alone. Communities survive when they care for one another. Families endure when love leads the way. And light always finds its way through even the darkest moments.

We pray that your home is filled with warmth, that your table is surrounded by love, and that even in the quiet moments, you feel peace. Whether your family is large or small, near or far, may you feel connected, protected, and deeply loved this Christmas.

COMMUNITY ANGELS -
The Empty Chair Project

THE CHAIR THAT STILL WAITS

The chair is still pulled out.

No one has sat in it for years, but every night before bed, the senior pushes it back under the table - the way they always did - careful, gentle, as if someone might still need it.

For over fifty Christmases, that chair was never empty.

There were shared meals, soft laughter, small arguments that meant nothing, and hands that reached for each other without thinking. There was someone who said, “Don’t forget your coat,” and someone who replied, “I won’t.”

Now, there is only one plate.

The senior eats slowly - not because they enjoy the food, but because there is no reason to rush. No one is waiting. No one will notice if the meal goes cold.

They don’t decorate anymore.
Not because they don’t love Christmas - but because decorating reminds them of what used to be.

The ornaments are still in a box.
So are the memories.

Some days, the silence is so loud it hurts.
They turn the TV on, not to watch, but to hear a human voice - any voice - just to remind themselves they still exist.

This senior worked hard their whole life.
They raised children. They showed up. They gave everything they had.

And now, the hardest part isn’t the bills.
It isn’t even the food.

It’s the nights when they whisper “goodnight” out of habit -
and no one answers.

When COMMUNITY ANGELS knocked on the door, the senior didn’t cry right away.
They stood there for a moment, frozen - as if they didn’t trust that someone was really there.

And then they said something that broke us:

“I didn’t think anyone remembered me.”

This Christmas, that chair is still empty.

But the senior is no longer forgotten.

No senior should ever wonder if their life still matters.

Not after a lifetime of love.
