Thriving plants, underrated items, new arrivals and an announcement!

From Wedneaday September 9th until Sunday September 20th we will de doing grocery only. During this time we will not be operating the kitchen and will not be taking any food orders. We will resume our food service when we reopen on Wednesday September 23.

Our temporary hours will be 11am-5pm.
As always we are closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Our fresh home made kimchi will still be available and we will continue to stock up the store.

Is Korean food spicy? Kind of, but not always πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³πŸ‘©β€πŸ³

The #1 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 thing people assume about our menu is that it's going to ALWAYS be hot.

𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭 𝐒𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐒𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐚π₯π₯.

Bulgogi, bibimbap, japchae, mandu, most of our kimbap - all mild. Rich, savory, comforting. And *zero* burn.

When a dish does bring the heat, it's on purpose. Spice wakes up the flavour - in dishes like tteokbokki and soondubu. It's there because it makes the food better, not just to test you.

We ranked our whole menu: mild to fire. Find exactly where you land - from the gentle stuff...and allll the way up to the dishes that WILL bite back πŸ’ͺ

And if you want more heat on anything? Just ask and we'll spice it up for you. But don't say we didn't warn you πŸ˜…

We have an announcement to make: we're closing... but only temporarily. We will be off from June 29 to July 7.

It's VERY hot in our kitchen. We're figuring out a solution to stay cool during these unprecedented times πŸ˜…

In the meantime, stop by. Stock up on drinks (we have TONS of sodas and juice beverages that can't be bought anywhere else in the valley). Stock up on banchan. Get your fermented goodies fix - they're great because we know how to make them well.

We are also planning on being at Comox Valley Farmers' Market on June 28th.

Mama Kim talks about Naengmyeon (냉면) and Kongguksu (콩ꡭ수)

Summer noodles are typically consumed during the summer to beat the heat from within 😊

We have the soy milk, authentic buckwheat noodles, mul (water) naengmyeon and bibim (mix) noodles in stock!

They are healthy, delicious and affordable 🀝

Most underrated snacks in our Korean store 🍫πŸ₯‘

1. Orion Poca chips

Made from 100% Korean potatoes, simple classic chip flavor, lightly salted, awesome crunch and not too salty

2. Karamucho Hot Chili Corn snack

Has a little bit of a kick, 2/10 on a spicy scale, nice crunchy texture.

3. Choco Churro Turtle chips are an absolute classic because of their unique texture.

They are light and crispy, and the sweetness of the chocolate perfectly mashes with their texture.

4. Hazelnut White Heim’s

These are insanely good! The nutty paste in the middle is absolutely incredible.

5. Haitai egg cookies

I love their soft texture and the sweet but not too sweet flavour. They melt in your mouth and as a bonus they are enriched with calcium and vitamins B1, 2 and 6.

6. Steak and Wasabi Turtle Chips

They have this distinct wasabi kick that you can feel in your nose after the first bite which i love.

7. Yakgwa cookies

True Korean classic. Their soft chewy texture is irresistible to me and they pair really well with coffee.

8. Hapi wasabi peas

Probably the healthiest snack out of all of these. They are wasabi coated dried green peas that have an awesome wasabi kick and they are super crunchy.

A customer asked me when I was at the register the other day if I eat here. I do - almost every day (except for when I have very specific cravings)! Most of the food I eat are the same dishes we have on the menu, but when we have time, we get creative.

With food this good, it's hard to resist πŸ˜…

We prep our meats in-house and develop our own recipes. Our chicken marinade has 12 natural herbs and spices.

We whip up bulgogi marinade and spicy pork sauce weekly. Sweet chili sauce brews twice a week. Making kimchi is a 2-day process, and we do it 3 times a week. Japchae is cooked fresh daily in multiple batches. Each Kimbap roll is made right when you order it.

There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes. It's short of fascinating what we achieve in our small kitchen, and we're incredibly proud with how we do it! πŸ‘©β€πŸ³πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³

Speaking of getting creative, we're in the final stages of getting a new menu, with a couple brand new dishes 🀯
