🐇💕 More exciting news from Pot of Gold Farm! 💕

Pearl welcomed five healthy little pink hippos Thursday! Everything went perfectly—a cozy fur-lined nest, five healthy kits, and one proud dad… Benny! ❤️

🌿 Did you know? Californian rabbits are one of the world’s most popular meat rabbit breeds. They’re known for their calm temperament, excellent mothering ability, and fast-growing kits, making them a favourite among homesteaders for generations.

Welcome to the world, little ones! 🐇

🐇 A big milestone at Pot of Gold Farm! 🐇

Hazel and her eight Silver Fox kits have officially graduated to their grow-out pen!

It’s hard to believe that just over two weeks ago these little ones were tiny, blind newborns tucked safely away in their nest. Today, they’re hopping, exploring, climbing, and investigating everything they can find—including Hazel’s feeder!

Watching them discover the world has been one of the most rewarding parts of raising this litter.

🌿 Did you know?

Around 2–3 weeks of age, baby rabbits begin leaving the nest to explore their surroundings. Although they’re starting to nibble hay and pellets, they still rely heavily on their mother’s rich milk for nutrition.

This is also an important stage for learning. By following Hazel around, they’re discovering where to find food, water, and even how to behave like rabbits.

Hazel has been an incredible first-time mom. She surprised us all with this unexpected litter, and she’s done a wonderful job raising eight healthy, curious kits.

We can’t wait to watch their personalities continue to shine over the coming weeks. We already have a few brave explorers! ❤️🐇

💕 Mother like kit.

Hazel’s little ones have their eyes open now, and they’re becoming more active every day! They’re still spending most of their time tucked safely in the nest, but it won’t be long before they’re hopping out to explore the world.

I managed to capture this sweet moment of Hazel and one of her kits nose to nose. The resemblance is incredible—it looks just like its mama.

These quiet moments are some of my favourite parts of raising rabbits. Watching them grow from tiny, helpless newborns into curious little explorers never gets old.

I have a feeling the next update will include a whole nest full of adventurous little bunnies! 🐇❤️🌿

Yesterday morning, our little corner of the world came frighteningly close to something much bigger.

Last evening, John took me to see where lightning struck a tree just beyond the brook on our neighbour’s property. Standing there, looking at the blown-out base of the tree and the 100–150 feet of charred forest floor, I couldn’t help but think about how different the day could have been.

The wind had already started to pick up. As one incredible member of our community waited for emergency crews to arrive, he carried bucket after bucket of water from the brook, climbing the hillside to wet down the forest floor and slow the spread of the fire. Those few minutes, those few buckets of water, may have made all the difference.

It’s humbling to realize how close our farm—and so many homes throughout Acaciaville and up on the ridge—may have come to disaster. Most people will never know just how easily yesterday could have become a community-wide tragedy.

Instead, today I am standing beside the brook, listening to the water flowing over the falls, overwhelmed with gratitude.

Grateful for the neighbour who acted without hesitation.
Grateful for the firefighters and emergency responders who answered the call.
Grateful for a community that looks out for one another.
And grateful for whatever greater hand watches over us when we need it most.

Sometimes the universe has a way of reminding us just how precious this life is. We get so busy with our day-to-day routines that we forget to stop and appreciate the beauty around us—the forests, the water, our homes, our animals, and the people who make a community feel like family.

Today, my heart is simply full.

To everyone who helped last night, thank you. You protected far more than a patch of woods. You protected homes, dreams, livelihoods, and memories that can never be replaced.

Please remember to be extra cautious during these dry conditions. It only takes a single spark, but it also only takes one person willing to act to change the outcome.

❤️ From all of us at Pot of Gold Farm, thank you.

We want to let everyone know that we are safe, our family is safe, our animals are safe, and Pot of Gold Farm is okay.

Today was a frightening reminder of just how quickly things can change. We are incredibly grateful that the fire on our property was brought under control before it could become something much worse.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to the pilot who first spotted the fire and alerted emergency crews, to iur neighbours who searched for two days, to the firefighters who responded so quickly and worked tirelessly to protect our home and farm, and to everyone who reached out with messages, phone calls, prayers, and offers of help. We truly live in an amazing community, and your kindness has meant the world to us.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with everyone affected by the other wildfires across Nova Scotia. We are hoping for the safety of those communities, and for the firefighters and emergency crews who continue to work so hard to bring those fires under control.

Tonight, our hearts are simply full of gratitude. We are thankful for our family, our animals, our farm, and for this incredible community that surrounds us.

Thank you, everyone. ❤️
