In Memory of Roy Johnson
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of one of the Dunnville Farmers' Market's most cherished vendors and supporters and longest attending vendor, Roy Johnson, who passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
For more than 80 years, the Johnson family has been a part of the Dunnville Farmers' Market. Roy and his wife proudly continued the tradition started by his parents, spending decades bringing their farm products to market and becoming familiar faces to generations of customers.
Roy's commitment to the market extended far beyond his own vendor stall. For over 60 years, he dedicated countless hours to helping the market grow and succeed. He was always willing to lend a hand to fellow vendors, offer advice, help solve a problem, or step in wherever support was needed. His kindness, knowledge, and generosity made him not only a respected vendor, but a treasured friend to so many.
Roy was also instrumental in the development of our current market building. His dedication, hard work, and vision helped create the market space that vendors and customers continue to enjoy today. His contributions have left a lasting mark on the Dunnville Farmers' Market and on our community.
Even after he was no longer able to attend the market regularly, Roy continued working behind the scenes on the farm he loved. Many of our customers came to know his daughter, Diane, who took over the market stall in recent years while Roy remained actively involved from home.
Roy's passing comes only months after the loss of his beloved wife. Together, they represented everything that is special about a farmers' market: hard work, community, friendship, and dedication. Their absence will be deeply felt.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Diane and the entire Johnson family during this difficult time.
Roy will be sadly missed by our vendors, our customers, and everyone whose life he touched throughout his many years at the market. His legacy will live on through the family he loved, the farm he built, and the market community he helped shape for generations.
