Happy May Long Weekend folks!!! So how would you like to go on a trip in the way back machine with me? Let's go back all the way to 2012 when we all were all Gangnam styled, the Rover touched down on Mars, the US president wasn't a weirdo, everyone still used cash and I set up my very first tent at my very first outdoor market with nothing but high hopes and no clues.

Fast forward 14 years and we're still going strong, can you believe it? We've since retired the tent and upgraded to an actual building and home base is now the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market and we like walls and roofs way better than tents and wind. It's especially good when situations like a cold and snowy May long weekend occur, I don't even stress about it a bit anymore and neither should you. So basically what I'm saying is scrap all your outdoor plans this weekend and come on down to the bus barns and stay warm with us, it's going to be good times. We can talk about how cool 2012 was. You could stock up on all your BBQ season needs. We could thumb wrestle for quarters. Dance battle?

Happy Mother's Day weekend folks!! Just doing a quick dispatch from the Beeflabs to remind everyone to call their mothers and don't forget to get them their yearly jerky. If you didn't get the memo, flowers are out, protein is in 😎

Find us and everything else your moms could want all weekend long at the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market. I'll be there this Saturday from 8am-3pm and The Bear will be there on actual Mother's Day from 11am -3pm. Get what you need for that special dinner, she probably needs some BBQ rub, don't forget the flowers and desserts o' plenty.

So cheers to all.the moms out there, you deserve a lot of love this weekend and every weekend ✌🏼❤️

Happy Good Friday Easter Weekend Folks!!! Big G is in your timeline today because it's Easter weekend and it's important you know that due to Easter stuff, the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market is CLOSED this SUNDAY. This means that the only chance you'll have to get your mitts on some Big G goodies is this SATURDAY from 8am - 3pm. I am going full all caps for the important details!

Why should you come? Easter weekend market is always a banger. The bakers go extra hard. The produce is extra fresh. The meats are double triple prime. There's even a pysanka egg lady. I think the market even hired a bunny or something festive maybe probably? It's in the email I definitely read. Oh ya, and we have a mustard that will make your ham sing like Celine Dion circa 1997.

So come see your favourite Big Consonant and stock up on some Easter weekend treats this Saturday. Just dont come Sunday✌🏼

Happy Friday Folks!!! We're doing another mix up this weekend. One of the Mini G's has her big improv debut performance at the Citadel Theatre on Saturday and this proud dad joke telling dad simply cannot miss it. So we're switching it up and this weekend at the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market and The Bear will handle Saturday duties (8am - 3pm) and yours truly will be there this Sunday (11am - 3pm) with a full review of the performance.

There's also some good reasons to pop by the market this weekend. It's St.Pattys day and my new neighbour is so Irish that the G in Big G Foods now stands for Guinness! There will be Irish dancers doing their best Riverdance at 1pm both days and there's lots of Tomato Top 100 goodies to be found that are absolutely worthy of the list.

So come say hi, get some quality local goodies and enjoy a day at the market and Whyte. Look forward to seeing you! ✌🏼

Happy Friday Folks!! It's been a hot minute since I posted here but in my defense I've been trying to hold the fort down without the assistance of my trusted right hand bear and it didn't leave time for my brilliant Facebook posts. That all changes now!

So here's some great news for all of us, especially me, that as of this Sunday, it's official, THE BEAR IS BACK BABY!!

So come on down to the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market this weekend and give a huge thumbs up 👍🏼 to The Bear and his newly reconstructed thumb this Sunday from 11am-3pm. I'll be there Saturday from 8am-3pm and I am happy to show you my perfectly boring thumb. Thumb wrestle anyone?

Happy New Year Folks!! Big G, your local BBQ and jerky super guy has been on holiday mode since December 22 and it's officially time to come back.

So with all the fanfare and excitement that an unpaid Facebook post can generate, please come for my triumphant return this weekend. Witness me shake off the ring rust and start hawking these meat goodies like it's 2025. I'll sell you jerky faster than a speeding bullet. I'll give you flavours more powerful than a locomotive. You will be able to leap small animals in a single bound. Look, up in the sky! It's a brisket! It's a wing! It's Big G! 🦸🏼‍♀️

So come on down to the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market this weekend, either Saturday 8am-3pm or Sunday 11am-3pm, and yours truly will be there and would love to hear what you got for xmas, how New Years went and how you think 2026 is going so far (did someone make a dumpster fire emoji yet?) 😉

Happy Friday Folks!! It's bloody freezing out. If you're still BBQ'ing right now, you have issues that need addressing, but mad respect nonetheless 🤜🏼🤛🏼

I've got a few updates for you, first and foremost The Bear. His recovery is going well and he's enjoying the time off as he rests that bionic paw. I on the other paw have been picking up the slack and working my p**t keester off with at least 2 days a week happening! Please play your tiniest violin for me as I toil away 🎻 😭

Also, can we talk about the frozen elephant in the room? Everyone at the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market, including myself, would love for all of you to come out for that last week of Christmas shopping and get those last minute gifts bought, but we also recognize that winter *really* sucks right now and you probably just want to stay home. So I feel like come out if you need to and can do it safely. If you can't, just stay home and catch up on some shows. I'll be here regardless and sure I would love to wish you a Happy Holidays in person before we are done for the year but if not we can always reconnect in the New Year when Snowmageddon is over.

Speaking of which, just an update on our hours over the holidays, yours truly will be manning the booth all weekend, Saturday 8am-3pm and Sunday 11am-3pm. Please note that we're closed until our triumphant return on January 10 as we're taking the first weekend of January off for a much deserved rest from all these 2 day work weeks 😉

If we see you this weekend, bless your hearty soul for toughing it out. If we don't see you until the New Year, then I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas Hanukkah Kwanzaa Solstice Festivus New Years et al and we look forward to seeing you in 2026!

Happy Friday Folks!! So some good and bad news to share this week. First the bad news. We're going to be down a key member of the team as of Monday! Our absolute top Bear is being benched for a couple months due to a grievous paw injury that requires surgery. This means he's going to be hibernating in the den for at least 2 months, so if you want to say goodbye, or better yet, want to hear the epic story of what happened, then Sunday is your last chance to hear about it. Trust me it's worth it as it involves a speed boat, three Chupacabras, and a sassy Yogi (not the bear but the guru) so don't sleep on this one.

The good news however is that for the foreseeable future you all get lots more Big G for the holidays and the New Year. That's right, lucky me gets to work ALL the weekends at the market and make all the things so that's going to be super fun and easy woohoo!!

So please, come wish your favourite BBQ Bear a speedy recovery before he leaves us until March. He will be there this Sunday from 11am-3pm, and I'll be there this Saturday from 8am-3pm. If you need some stocking stuffers, we got the goods!

All the jerky is fresh right now because we went hard this week in anticipation of the medical hibernation leave.

Happy Friday Folks!! So yeah, BBQ'ing maybe got a teensy bit more difficult with winter showing up full force today. This has caused me a few minor inconveniences.

#1 - Finally had to retire the cargo shorts for the season and put pants on 👎🏼. Sorry ladies but these ankles won't be seen until at least next April

#2 - Discovered my leaf blower died over the summer so I had to shovel like a serf today

#3 - Had to deal with Black Friday crowds at three different Canadian Tires to get a new one, because let me be frank here, Big G really needs to blow 🌬️

#4 - During my frantic city wide search for the ultimate leaf blower deal, I witnessed first hand, multiple times, what can only be considered the road version of The Purge. I love you Edmonton but seriously 👀

So that's the "bad" news. The good news is all this snow will make for a perfect Winter Whyte Light Up celebration tomorrow!

Now how was that for a segue?

The Old Strathcona Farmers' Market is even open for extended hours tomorrow so we can be a part of the celebration. I'll be there for our usual time from 8am-3pm but a curated selection of vendors is sticking around from 4pm-8pm, the Cafe will be open late (bannock demo!), and 83 Ave is the only place to be tomorrow with ALL the magical wintery things happening.

So come on down, scratch some things off the Xmas list and stick around for all the funtivities both in and outside of the market. If Saturdays not your thing, The Bear will be there Sunday from 11am-3pm to help you out.

Happy Freaky Friday Folks!! Due to some unintended magical side effects from a janky shared fortune cookie, Big G & The Bear have body swapped for this weekend only. That means that I will be at the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market this Saturday from 8am-3pm, but I will be acting as and appearing as The Bear. This also means The Bear will be there Sunday from 11am-3pm, but will look and act like Big G. Not confusing at all right?

Rest assured that regardless of who or what is in the booth, someone will sell you jerky and meat enhancements we promise. As for this freaky friday business, don't worry about us, we're trained professionals and we're googling how to reverse this. I think we just need to have some sort of epiphany so we'll be all fixed up by next weekend.

As for this weekend, Please don't let this snow scare you from firing the meats up. Snow just means BBQ is a labour of love that everyone should praise you even more for suffering through.
