FOUND strives to reduce food waste by gathering and sharing forgotten fruits and vegetables in Halifax, NS. We source our food from local producers, farmers’ markets, and even the trees around us that otherwise wouldn’t end up on our plates. All too often, foods that are considered ‘imperfect’ are left in the field to rot, and ripe produce at farmers’ markets is thrown away due to short shelf life

. To help address this problem, FOUND collects this forgotten food and donates a part of each fresh harvest to local food banks and shelters, with the remaining being offered wholesale to local cafes and restaurants. Food that isn’t distributed immediately is transformed by FOUND into shelf-stable preserves and other goods that are sold at local markets and shops. FOUND also organizes Urban Harvest Days around Halifax to gather the local fruit growing in our backyards, providing a way to foster community and raise awareness of food waste.

As we reach the end of our 2022 season and begin looking ahead to 2023, we’re putting a call out for new Community Harvest Leaders to join our network 🍅

FOUND currently has groups operating in the HRM, the Annapolis Valley, and Bridgewater areas, but we’re always looking to expand!

If you are enthusiastic about our mission and want to lead harvests in your area, consider becoming a Community Harvest Leader, or connecting with a Community Harvest Hub in your area. Let’s get this movement province-wide!

FOUND is still seeking gleaning opportunities for the fall!

If you or someone you know have produce available that you cannot sell - whether it be leftover after a harvest, crops damaged in the wake of Hurricane Fiona, or simply produce with imperfections - let’s connect! FOUND volunteers will harvest that produce for free and then donate it to a local organization in need.

Contributing farmers are also eligible to receive a tax credit for the donated goods! Get in touch at [email protected] or using the link in our bio.

Vegetables for gleaning!

UPDATE: EVERYTHING IS ALL GONE

Gleaning: Today....we have bags of 2nd veggies to give away. There are:
Parsnip
Potatoes
Watermelon radish
Brussels Sprouts (in white bins)
We ask that you take the whole bag and share if it is too much for you. This reducing handling by others.
They are seconds so require trimming.
451 Canard Street Port Williams, NS. Today. 9 am - 4 pm or until supplies last. I will post when they are gone.
They will be on pallets outside.
If you wish to make a donation (thank you) please go to TapBucks on the taprootfarms.ca online shop or etransfer [email protected] Thank you!! 🌱❤️🌱✨
Lets share with each other and reduce food waste! Peace and love to you!!!!
