What is Salt the Marrow and what makes us special?!
In 2024, we finally put our money where our mouths were and dived into a butchery business. We'd been dreaming of a shop together for years but we always struggled with the limitations of a brick and mortar shop with huge overhead costs.
How could we do what we love, share our passion and knowledge but mitigate the risk and avoid chaining ourselves to a shop? We could take our skills on the road! We could spread our joy and education province-wide (hopefully Canada-wide, someday!) by teaching! When we were coming up in the butchery world, it was pretty challenging to find a way to learn. There were two options; work full time at a shop and hope they will let you on the block eventually or spend a fortune on a college meat cutting course. There wasn't an in between. So, after 30 combined years in the industry, we decided to fill that gap and create the inbetween!
Our business is designed to make butchery accessible to everyone. Our workshops are inclusive and safe for people of all walks of life. They are affordable and approachable. We show clients that breaking down whole animals in a small space is possible. We demonstrate using small, affordable equipment. We teach you how to get the most out of your animal, practising seam butchery and using everything; nose to tail.
So, if you want to learn how to break down a whole hog, we're your girls! If you want to learn how to save some money by purchasing whole chickens or beef/pork primals and cut your own steaks/roasts, hit us up! If you love sausage and want to master the craft, book a sausage party and we'll bring you the brats and the skills to make them!
