McQuesten Urban Farm

McQuesten Urban Farm We are a non-profit,organic urban farm based in the McQuesten community under leadership located in East Hamilton.

​As part of an initiative to increase food security in the McQuesten area, we have developed an a 3+ acre urban farm in the green space behind the former St. Helen's school in Hamilton Ontario. Not only does our urban farm address the issue of securing a nutritious and sustainable food source for the community, but is creating a positive change in the neighbourhood by; providing volunteer opportun

ities for citizens of all ages, adding economic value to the community, and fostering strong bonds amongst residents in McQuesten. We believe that all people should have access to healthy and nutritious food, regardless of where they live or their socio-economic status. By developing an urban garden, we can create affordable food solutions right in McQuesten's own backyard. Our farm is located within walking distance and gives residents the opportunity to access fresh food without any transportation barriers. Volunteering at this farm empowers members of the community; by creating team building opportunities, developing skills that are transferable to the workplace, and by minimizing stigma against receiving subsidized or free food. Our goal is to empower our community with fresh food, food security, job opportunities, and skills to build healthy people and healthy minds.

Professional Learning Day Closure Notice

Please note that Niwasa Hamilton will be closed on Friday, June 5, 2026, as our team participates in a Professional Learning Day.

This dedicated time allows our staff to engage in ongoing learning, professional development, and skill-building to better support the children, youth, and families we serve.

Programs and services will resume on Monday, June 8, 2026.
