πŸ’š Kimberley Farmers' Market Update – Smoke conditions

We're closely monitoring today's smoke conditions and assessing whether this evening's market will need to relocate to Centennial Hall. We're also consulting with our vendors, as they'll be spending the most time outdoors and are the ones most directly affected by the conditions and changes.

βœ… No news = we're outdoors! If we decide to relocate to Centennial Hall, we'll post an update by 4:00 p.m.

Please note that Kids Activities and demos will not be running this week, and live music may also be affected.

Some vendors have understandably decided not to attend due to the smoke. Unfortunately, there won't be fresh corn this week, as the conditions have significantly impacted harvesting. We completely understand and appreciate the challenges our farmers are facing.

If the market remains outdoors, we encourage everyone to assess their own comfort level and take steps to reduce smoke exposure if needed. This may mean wearing a well-fitting mask, keeping your visit short, or choosing not to attend. Please do what's best for your health and comfort.

If you're able to visit the market, your support means a great deal to the local vendors who have chosen to attend despite a challenging week.

Thank you for your patience, compassion, and continued support of our market community. πŸ’š

🌽 Welcome to Week 8 of the Kimberley Farmers' Marketβ€”we're halfway through the season! 🀯

August is here, bringing even more local produce, and corn season has arrived! Alongside fresh food, artisan creations, and handcrafted goods, it's the perfect time to shop local.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by the ongoing evacuations, including market favourites Niwa's Rustic Bread, who won't be with us this week. We hope everyone is able to return home safely soon.

We'll continue monitoring smoke conditions and are hopeful for blue skies and another beautiful market evening.

✨ This week's highlights:
🎻 PDK String Trio returns for one special performance, bringing an energetic mix of pop, folk, jazz, and classical music.

🍎 Wildsight Food Tool Share Showcase – Meet Food Program Coordinator Ashley Lortscher to explore food processing equipment and learn about the Apple Capture, Pick & Press, and Food Tool Share programs.

🎹 Kootenay Piano Works Music Lab – Free, hands-on music fun for all ages!

🎨 Wildsight Kids Activities – Free drop-in arts & crafts with local artist Alannimals.

🎟️ Plus, our Stillpoint Community Raffle launches tomorrow! Watch our Stillpoint website and Instagram for details.

✨ Looking ahead, August and September are packed with workshops, live music, and community events leading up to Localpalooza on August 27 and Stillpoint Festival beginning September 17.

πŸ’š Kimberley Farmers' Market Update – Thursday

We're monitoring today's smoke closely. Forecasts show improving conditions, but due to the potential smoke from the planned Tower Creek backburn, there is a possibility that today's market may relocate to Centennial Hall.

This decision is based solely on air quality and our commitment to the health and safety of our vendors, volunteers, and visitors.

βœ… No news = we're outdoors!
πŸ“£ If we decide to relocate to Centennial Hall, we'll share an update by 4:00 pm.

If the market proceeds outdoors, we encourage everyone to assess their own comfort level and take steps to reduce smoke exposure if needed. This may include wearing a well-fitting mask, keeping your visit shorter, or choosing not to attend. Please make the decision that's best for your own health and comfort.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on wildfire activity and local conditions, please continue to refer to official sources such as BC Wildfire Service and the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK).

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigate changing conditions. We hope to see you this evening!
