There’s nothing quite like that first bite of fresh corn on the cob—a nostalgic taste of summer, backyard BBQs, and warm evenings around the table. 💛

CSA season may be winding down, but we still have plenty of fresh produce coming your way this week!

CSA members are getting fresh corn in bags of all sizes this week, along with their zucchini, potatoes, and other seasonal favourites.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Ryan Bender as everyone gathers to say goodbye today. Ryan was genuinely a nice guy and was always kind whenever our paths crossed. His passing is a heartbreaking loss for our community, and he was taken far too young. Our thoughts are with everyone who knew and loved him during this difficult time.

Torn. Beaten. Bruised. 💔🌱 And after a week of sorting, we now know just how much the hail took from our garden.

Last weekend’s hailstorm didn’t just leave a few cosmetic marks. It changed the course of our harvest.

It’s taken all week—and hours of heartbreak—to work through the gardens, survey the damage, and remove everything that was simply too far gone to save.

🥦 Cauliflower is officially done for the season.
🌽 Corn stalks have been shredded.
🥒 Most of the beans and pickling cucumbers won’t make it to customers.
🥬 Swiss chard has been trimmed back, and we’re hoping the plants are healthy enough to produce another succession of leaves.
🥦 Broccoli heads couldn’t be salvaged, but some of the florets survived and have been packed up for sale.

Some crops can recover from hail because the damage is mostly cosmetic. Others simply don’t have enough left to produce another harvest.

But there’s one thing we remind ourselves of on the farm:

Nothing goes to waste. 🐷❤️

The produce that couldn’t be salvaged for customers has gone straight to the pig pens instead. What couldn’t become food for your family can still help feed the pigs that will eventually become the next batch of Fresh Field Farms sausage.

It’s not the harvest we planned for. It’s not easy watching a week—or months—of work disappear in minutes.

But we pick up, clean up, and keep going. 🌱

🌱 Week 7 of the CSA—and this one came with a little extra adventure! 🌪️🌧️

At first glance, this week’s CSA bags might look pretty ordinary: potatoes, celery, peppers, cherry tomatoes and more. But getting those vegetables from the field into your bags this week was anything but ordinary.

Last Saturday’s storm wreaked havoc on gardens and farms across the area—including ours. 🌬️⛈️ So this week, we’ve been sorting, salvaging and searching through the fields for the survivors. And we’re happy to say that CSA members are still getting a variety of fresh, farm-grown produce this week! 🥔🌶️🍅

That’s one of the unique things about being part of a CSA.

You’re not just picking up a weekly bag of vegetables. You’re supporting the farm from the very first seed order to the very last harvest and coming along for the wild ride that is a growing season.

And wow… what a ride this year has been. 😅

Extreme rain.
Damaging winds.
Pesky bunnies. 🐰
Annoying aphids.
Hungry moose. 🫎
And now… disastrous hail. ⛈️

In a good year, CSA bags are overflowing with some of our best harvests in all their seasonal variety.

In a tough year, CSA members are still our priority—because they made the commitment to support the farm week after week, regardless of what Mother Nature decides to throw our way.

💚 Thank you to everyone who has come along with us this season. Your support means more than you know.

PRODUCE MAY BE SHORT, BUT THE FARM STORE IS FULL! 🫙

The storm and hail damage have taken a toll on this week’s fresh produce, but we’re making the most of what we have—and we’ve got LOTS of new canned and preserved goodies to choose from! 💚

✨ From our wonderful handpicked chokecherries come Chokecherry Jam & Chokecherry Syrup!
🥒 Dilled Beans have been added to our preserved collection.
🥒 Sweet & Sour Pickles are back in stock!

And there’s still plenty more to fill your pantry and freezer. 🫙
