Check out the loaded pollen baskets (corbiculae) on this busy worker! 🌼🍯 This is a picture of a bumblebee that someone gave me. Honey bees do the same thing.
A lot of people think pollen mixes right into nectar to make honey, but bees actually keep them completely separate. Nectar gets fanned down into pure honey, while those bright orange pollen granules get packed into special comb cells to make "bee bread" for the young brood.
When we place a pollen trap at the entrance, we're able to gently collect a little bit of this superfood before they head inside—leaving plenty for the hive and giving us a nutrient-packed boost!
