Try whole herb leaves on your family’s favourite sandwiches, salads, soups, sides, spuds, stir fries, or pastas. Living Food is fun! It's an easy way to spice up your life! Involve your kids and share a lifelong skill. Bored with the same recipe every week? Create new meals by changing only the herbs. Take the same basic chicken/pasta recipe, one day add basil, and the next time use thyme. They will taste completely different. Or, try some herb combinations. Oregano, Basil and Parsley are my favorite. Adding herbs on the top of plated food makes a $2 homemade meal taste like a $20 gourmet restaurant quality dish. Living Herbs vs Cut Herbs. Living herbs have more flavour and are the healthiest herbs possible. Cut herbs continually lose flavour and nutrients (essential oils) from the time the plant is cut. Most fresh cut herbs are sourced from around the world and repackaged in Canada for distribution. Kitchen Pick Living Herbs are 100% grown in Canada in our family run farm in Maple Ridge. No pesticides - we use a natural approach with biological insects to fend off pests
(conventional field produce uses sprays to remove insects). Living Herbs: how to care and prepare. A taste of summer can be as close as the windowsill all year round. For a family portion, use the whole plant, cut at base; stems and all - the Jamie Oliver way! To enjoy your plant for weeks...

Harvesting your plant, start from the largest leaves first, picking one leaf at a time by simply cutting with scissors or pinch and twist with fingers at the base of each herb leaf (compare this to thinning the forest canopy to allow sunlight through). For indoor care, find a bright, warm location (minimum of 2 hours of sunshine per day- less than 2 hours the herbs will survive not thrive). Water when pot feels lite or soil is dry to touch. Place plant in a plate or dish, fill with water.NOTE: remove any standing water after 5 minutes. Voila! Perfectly watered plant. For larger herbs, plant Kitchen Pick in your garden or in a larger container to give them room to grow. Herbs will grow well with most common mineral based fertilizer.
