Below is a photo of some of our blueberries with our new blueberry measuring tool we got!
18mm-21mm is considered "jumbo" and we have found some of our blueberries are already measuring 22mm which is considered "super jumbo" or "mammoth" sized blueberries!
With these being old heritage varieties, they are packed full of flavor and are some of the best tasting blueberries I have had, and are a farm favorite with many U-pickers! We are still early in the season so it will be interesting to see how big this years biggest blueberry will be!

Our blueberry U-pick will be OPEN every day except Tuesdays, 9 am - 3 pm.

We are CLOSED on Tuesdays and on rainy days.

Our blueberries are spray free, we do not use chemical fertilizers or any pesticides in our field. You will be able to view our emu chicks, mini highland cows, lambs, baby goats, ducklings and other livestock while picking blueberries.
We can't wait to see you all!!

This is Cuatro's final update unfortunately.
We had to put Cuatro down last night.
He declined very rapidly yesterday, he was fine in the morning, he even went for his morning walk with me and ate his breakfast blueberries.
I checked him throughout the day, he didn't eat his blueberries and scrambled eggs at noon and he was acting a lot slower than he was earlier when he ate with us for breakfast, but he was still walking slowly and lifting his head when we would talk to him. He declined very rapidly after that and at around dinner time it had become very obvious to us that the kindest thing we could do for him was put him out of his misery.

Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.

Cuatro was alive, happy and thriving for almost 15 full days, which was way more than we ever hoped for at the start, but still devastating to say the least. Cuatro loved life, he was always so happy, loving and trusting despite his differences.
It wasn't just his extra legs that made Cuatro special, it was his resilience, strength, adaptability and happiness despite the difficulties that made this emu so special.

Thank you to everyone who helped us along the way, giving us guidance, tips, lending craft supplies, designing 3D printed leg braces, and of course, the team at VCA Canada Island Animal Hospital for examining him, doing xrays and ultrasounds to try to make a surgery plan for Cuatro, he would not have made it this far without the help and guidance we have had over these past two weeks.

He was so incredibly loved and we are so lucky that we got a chance to know him, even if it was just for a short time.

Cuatro is 2 weeks old today, both foot braces are off, and this little emu is loving life!
Yesterday was a big day for Cuatro, he went to get xrays and ultrasounds at VCA Canada Island Animal Hospital with Ken Langlier!
Ken was understandably amazed that this emu has been able to survive and thrive despite having two extra legs. He told us Cuatro is otherwise healthy, and told us that if he has made it this far and is doing well, that he has a good chance of survival and having quality of life, which was extremely relieving to hear.

We spent some time talking about what the best long term options would be, it was a lot to take in, but we are starting to have a plan set in place for Cuatro for long term if he continues to stay healthy, happy, and has quality of life.

The downside: Cuatro is not growing as fast as his other siblings that hatched so there is a good chance his extra legs and back portion are stunting his growth, we have noticed growth in the extra back portion that connects his extra non functional legs, but not the legs themselves. We also discovered Cuatro has two cloacas, which is where he empties his bowels. Both cloacas seem to be functioning properly and are located on either side of his back where his two non functioning legs start.

We are waiting to hear back about a potential surgery plan as it is a complicated procedure given there are bones connecting the extra limbs. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he stays healthy, happy and able to get ampuation safely.

Thank you so much to Ken Langlier and the staff at Island Animal Hospital for seeing us and taking such great care with Cuatro! Ken has fixed a broken leg on an older emu in the past and has done such amazing work so I am hoping he will be able to work his magic with Cuatro!

We had piglets born last night!

Moo moo gave birth last night at around 10pm to 6 happy piglets. This morning at feeding time, they were already walking around the pen with their mom. So nice to see them have so much energy already. Its always a happy day when farrowing goes without issue.

We are very excited to be opening for our last season of U-pick before we leave to Nova Scotia, we will have a better idea of our opening day within the next week, we will be open 6 days a week during U-pick, closed on Tuesdays.
We will have mini highland cows, emu chicks, lambs, baby goats and maybe piglets visible from our U-pick. Since it has been so hot and dry out we have moved our kune kune pigs into a cooler spot on our farm, which means our emu chicks will be taking their spot at the back of our blueberry field so you will be able to see them closer this year!
When we open there will likely be 2 varieties to pick from, as the season progresses we will have all 7 heritage varieties to pick from.

Keep checking our page for more information about opening day!

One of our amazing customers made 3D printed foot braces for Cuatro! He is walking so much better now! Thanks Danica!!
We have x-rays and ultrasounds booked at VCA Canada Island Animal Hospital later this week with Ken Langlier, we are keeping our fingers crossed for no more complications than we have already had with Cuatro.
The x-rays and ultrasounds will be very eye opening, we are so thankful for all the help we have gotten from neighbours, customers, family, emu experts, vets and surgeons, I cannot thank everyone enough for having space in your hearts for our little emu!

Keep your fingers crossed for Cuatro!
