New Glasgow Farmers Market

Local farms have faced a tough start to the growing season this year due to the weather. Thanks to Way To Grow Gardens for sharing a glimpse behind the scenes of what it takes to bring fresh local food to our community. 🌱

We will be taking a week off the New Glasgow Farmers Market this weekend.

It's been a slow spring for us, the combination of wet and cold has made it hard to get planting on time and whatever we have planted in the field hasn't thrived just yet.

Usually by now we would be transitioning from harvesting from the tunnels to harvesting from the field, but this season the weather has really impacted the growing.

This week the sun has been out, temperatures are up, and the field is finally drying out so we want to make the most of it and try to catch up!

We are working hard to get hot crops in the tunnels and continue planting the field with veggies and flowers. Hopefully with this extra time and sunshine, what we have planted will continue to grow and we will be back at market with whatever is ready!

It's never easy for us to make a decision like this but it's what we have to do to ensure the rest of the season goes well! We really appreciate everyone's support and understanding!

No matter how small or big your purchase, you're contributing to the local economy. 🐝 Maybe your weekly purchases help a small business pay for their website, purchase some new equipment, or help them pay down a loan at the end of the year. It could cover an emergency vet bill, or pay for an hour of their employee's time at the market. It all adds up! ⬆📈

Buying local imperfectly allows more of us to build a stronger community, together.

We are very excited for the NGFM Kids Market tomorrow, Sunday June 7 and the kids are super excited too!

They've all been working very hard and can't wait to sell their wares. It is supposed to rain tomorrow, but please make an effort to come out and support them.

The dome is full and Pat Spaulding Music will be there too!

A few things shoppers should know...

To make it easier for the kids:
✅️ Bring cash, most kids will not be able to accept credit or debit
✅️ No NS Loyal school vouchers accepted
✅️ No Market Money accepted

⭐️ Please bring patience and kindness. It is hard for some adults to sell to the public, and so it's an extra big deal for kids. This is a fun experience for them.

The Market will have hot dogs for sale and the café will also be open.

The Kids Market is open from 11am until 2pm. The door will be open but please try to come at 11 (rather than earlier) to let the kids finish setting up.

🌟 NGFM Kids Market Day is Almost Here! 🌟

This Sunday, more than 20 young entrepreneurs will take over the New Glasgow Farmers Market for our semi-annual Kids Market!

These talented young vendors have been busy growing plants, baking treats, creating artwork, making jewelry, crafting home décor, designing gifts, and developing their own small businesses. The Kids Market gives children an opportunity to build confidence, learn valuable business skills, and showcase their creativity in a supportive environment.

Over the past week, we've been introducing many of our young entrepreneurs in the NGFM Kids Market event page. If you'd like a sneak peek at some of the amazing vendors who will be attending, be sure to check out the event page and browse the vendor spotlights.
